IMPORTANT: Go to your documents/victoria II/crimeamod folder and delete the GFX folder. Not save game compatible. This update adds flavour to Japan (details in the changelog), adds the possibility to make Russia lose cores on Congress Poland, Aland and the Baltic States if it's owned by the relevant countries (via event), improves the AI a bit, mainly about what units they build and also how big countries with many states use their national focuses. It also does some rebalancing for modifiers and terrain types, nerfs taiping and adds a new minimum military spending of 20% (you can see my argument for this in the changelog).
1.12 changelog :
japan now has decisions and event chains to puppet manchuria, siam and the philippines.
japan can now settle korea and alaska via decisions
japan can now claim california if they own hawaii and aslaka, and settle it.
some other flavour for japan, such as accepting ainus if they're an equalitarian government, commiting a certain massacre that didn't happen, renaming of political parties to be more realistic, etc.
after settling california, japan can create a nation called the Japanese Pacific States which should get some immigrants
this nation can also refute the manifest destiny, but they can only do it once, so the US will keep cores on every state other than california even if they do it (i say this because the japanese pacific states has 2 irredentist decisions)
fixed an issue that sometimes let countries get military access through switzerland
fixed the event to expel the turks from thrace that broke in the 1.11 update
there is now a minimum military spending of 20%. this is because as it previously was, raising your military spending and lowering it again locked your units org at 25%, while costing you absolutely 0 while at peace. the ai always spent 30%, meaning that they helped the world's economy and also had a realistic peacetime army that still cost supplies. Now, if you're a poor nation, going artillery heavy may no longer be the best for you, and it might be interesting to think about variations, such as more cavalry (to flank) and such. That's what the ai did (and still does) as a poor nation: not build as much artillery. Yes, playing as a poor nation and maintaining a technological army is harder now (if you're a player), but i think it's a good thing. if you're poor, you should not be allowed to have 5% soldiers and an artillery heavy army anyway, since your economy forbids you. this is now better represented
the ai should no longer build dragoons and cuirassers (they have their niches, but the ai does not know which niche that is)
reduced mountain attacker penalty from -3 to -2, and increased it's combat width to be just 50% of the normal rather than 40%. jungle combat width is now 66% rather than the 75% it was.
made pacifism have a less significant impact on reinforce speed and organization regain speed, but also reduced their supply consumption bonus. this is because it sometimes lead to ridiculously cheap navies
lowered the build time for land units slightly. the build time for infantry is unchanged, but the things that used to take 105 days now take 90 (except for cuirassers), also stormtrooper & guards take just long to build as infantry now. this is to streamline things and also because the AI likes deleting chunks of it's army to reorganize
all clerks, intellectuals and capitalists in new york are now jewish. this is to represent how the city was 20% jewish by 1910. It will never reach that point, but it should have a decent jewish minority for the whole game
changed US capitalist spread a bit (boston and philadelphia are now more relevant, while new york is less)
made prussia start with a few more capitalists, and france with quite a bit more. i don't want france to be an industrial giant, since historically they weren't, but since they start as laissez faire i thought it was fair to give them a boost to their capitalists
UK's starting factories were buffed, and so were france's (to a lesser extent) and prussia's (1 new factory). this is because both france and the UK start as laissez faire, so they take quite a while to get rid of their starting unemployment, meaning germany surpasses them far too easily industry wise
added a repeating event to spread the homestead act to provinces that happen to not have it
adjustment to the westward migration modifiers, and also to what states get affected
crisis now only get hard unlocked by 1900's, and they should fire less often before then (hopefully almost never)
finland/sweden/scandinavia now gets an event to remove russian cores in the alands
poland, PLC and congress poland now get an event to remove russian cores in the original Congress Poland land
baltic states now get an event to remove the russian cores on the baltic land (there's 3 events, one for each region) if the UBP or a baltic nation owns it and are not a russian puppet. This means that you can make gross balticums and have Russia stop attacking it, although if you just own it by yourself they won't lose the cores.
changed some tech priorities
nerfed FRCA starting rebels a bit
nerfed taiping a bit
krakow no longer joins galicia if galicia is vassal.
polish tags should join poland more regularly now, and forming poland now only needs 20 prestige
Spain should take morroco more reliably now
added +25% engineer support ability to the strategic mobility tech, so that engineers are less garbage
france should now build the eiffel tower
make some starting pop changes so that hokkaido now assimilates better to japanese
fixed an icon bug for pop's demanding reforms (it sometimes showed the wrong icon)
the UK will send an ultimatum to portugal to give them rhodesia in case they colonize there, just like what happens if you try to link angola and mozambique
AI uk is now more likely to release their dominions when the event appears
the australian dominion now get a longer immigration booms, so that they can hopefully reach their historical potential
australia now becomes a dominion in 1880. it's not historical, but irl it had 4 million people by 1900's,which is simply impossible if it only becomes a dominion in the 1900's
changed requirements for homesteading, and the requirements for it ending
changed NF priority
pops are now more likely to migrate to countries in the new world that are their primary culture
improvements to hopefully make austria sphere hannover
improved russian starting relation with Qing to hopefully prevent them from attacking too early, like they often did. This is because Russia has to fight a massive land war for some shitty useless land before they even have good techs, weakning them a lot
ai countries with their capital in europe no longer enslave the free (mainly affects spain) unless they are also enslaving minorities
ai should no longer use NF on very low pop states unless they are a small country. hopefully this helps the UK and Russia
made russia start with 100 relations with the turks, and also changed their army's starting location so the AI doesn't genocide it from attrition as often
fixed a stupid minister from blood & iron which britain often got early game, which caused their factories to cost basically no materials. it was either a cheat on purpose, or an oversight, but it's now removed.
buffed the number of capitalists in paris at the game start, and also france's starting factories
boston now starts with a steamer shipyard to represent the boston shipyard, and new england starts with a lumber mill. this should help the american capitalists have more money early on
made it so that instead of france having 1 bloat decision that gives them school reforms and lets them take the french language schooling, they have just 1 decision which gives them french language schooling and also low schools if they don't already have it, since the decision refers to how france started public secular schooling.
belgium only lose the buffer state modifier now if they blob and take either amsterdam or dunkirk (this was in the last version but i forgot to write it down)
hey, ty for ur work I like big japan :)
