Description

Update 20/10/2016: 17th century conversion of Empire Total War. To install : 1. Remove other mods from your Data folder to avoid conflicts before installation. Then download Colonialism 1600AD. Install as follows: 1.Place user.empire_script in C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts. Delete the previous scripts already located there first. 2. Place 1600_naval_007.pack, Col_loc_en.pack, Col_music, Col_scripts, Col_models.pack, Col_ui.pack, colmod.pack, Colo_events.pack, Pikeman_animation_MOD.pack, and patch_general_andy's_musket_sounds.pack in the Data folder. The Data folder can be found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Empire Total War\data. 3. If "new.pack" is already in your Data folder, delete it. 4. Next place startpos.esf in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Empire Total War\data\campaigns\main. Now start Empire Total War as normal through Steam.

How does it work exactly if it's the first time we install the mod ? Do we have to install the previous 1.0 release en 1.1 patch ? Or do we install right then 2.0 ?
Also, do we have to put the script in the data folder if it's the first time, or immediatly in %appdata% as written ?

You don't need a patch. The patch I made for twcenter is now merged into the mod. You delete whatevers in the script folder already and paste in our modded user script.

Thaks for your answer. Just to be clear then, there is nothing needed else than the content of this download, meaning all packs and the script ncluded ? No other file from any other previous release such as old .pack files ?

PS : i finally made it work, no issue then...

However, I'd like if you agree to involve myself on the startpos modding for that mod in order to make it look a bit more like what it was then... (only region owners, nothing else).
Portugal, for example, was part of Spain (union of crowns during the years 1580-1640, due to Portugal's king having no heir)
France and Spain weren't having such good relationships back then (which would lead to war between them when France and many other european countries claimed the Spanish crown)...
And diplomacy in general was tensed between the catholics and reformists, leading to the 30 years war which embrased Europe until 1648 if my memory is correct.
Sweden and United Provinces both had colonies in North America (part of the later called 'thirteen colonies' (United Provinces owned New York, which they had bought to the native americans until the midth of the century, when they got kicked-*** by the british), and France didn't really have colonized Louisiana yet... only claimed, but that's pretty much it. Massive colonization began under Richelieu and Louis XIV, much later during the century). I think that would add more challenge to the game (which is pretty much the point

On the points I'm not used to mod (I only know basic editing and merging saves, so everything around it such as economy,diplomacy and so on, but not family trees or faction names) I'd replace austria in Alsace by Alsace itself (why not replace westphalia, which was always called hesse-cassel (until Napoleon Ier raised it as a state, it was already a county/duchy of the Roman Empire just like Baden Wurttemberg, Hanover or Bavaria, at least until the religious 30 years War when reformists returned themselves against Austria)

Just a glimpse of the changes I'd help you make if you accept it. I'd really like to get involved in order to make the game, and the mod which you developed, even more interesting !

Portugal shared a king with Spain since 1580 but had substantial autonomy. I think protectorate status would make sense. I am working on new factions including Lorraine for the future. It's not possible to change the borders but province ownership to some extentb can be changed.

Portugal could be playable as well, eventhough it was not [anymore] a powerful nation at this time (it began to lose its colonies to the benefit of france, britain. But some players would certainly be happy to make it bigger again.
Not sure how that would work if a player is a protectorate of another nation however.

Denmark as well, could be playable. It's actually one of the biggest secondary nations, with three territories at the beginning, two of them being easily defended by naval (Iceland and Denmark itself, which can't be sieged if a navy blocks the bridge to sweden/hanover)
That would make Iceland much more a challenge to get, as it was during WWII... because it's one of the few (and the only one in europe) "refill stations" towards america.

Again with protectorates, I don't know if we have the possibility to make a protectorate nation playable. But if that's the case, most of the german states should be protectorate of Habsburg's Austria. With a small malus tweak to make them not like Austria very much, they would slowly declare their complete independance (just as did Prussia).

Hi FalconerOmen. I want to thank you first. Your mod gave me lots of fun. After the release2.0 I noticed something maybe not very good. The AI get less army then before. I think maybe because the startpos.esf so I changed back to startpos16052014, and then the powerful AI came back. They build lots of army, and always try to attack me. So should you do something to repair the startpos.esf file?

if i try to run the campaign the game crashes. this is prbbly caused by the fact that i didn't copy the script as it is mentioned in the instrunctions. the cause for this is the fact that there is no such folder in Users for empire. I have empire on steam, may that be the source of the trouble? to put it again, i can't find the folder with the script I am to replace. can you pls help me?

The folder is a hidden one. Do a search for it. It has nothing to do with using Steam. The script should be pasted in the folder mentioned.

Is it possible to play vanilla if this mod is installed? Or does it automatically start the Colonialism mod?
Also, Is it posible to have other mods installed (like Darthmod) and play this (not both active at the same time, of course).

It's a mod so if you want to run it vanilla you need to delete the mod. I don't recommend running it with other mods.

their soldier model all "1600dragoons" but there is no model called 1600dragoons in Col_models.pack

Yes, I found it, but I think the model file should ended buy .mesh ? something like it. So, I think it should be the reason.

And, FalconerOmen, I did something changes about your mod, I tried to make the battle more huge and more fierce. Can I share the mod I changed to friends?

Yes you can but make clear it's your own edit of Colonialism 1600ad.

The mesh used by 1600dragoons is euro_musketman. It works fine for me.

When you say to delete everything in the scripts folder, does that include
prefrences.empire_script? Because it looks important and unrelated to the mod.

Really enjoying this mod. Playing as Moscow... but all my saves crash on loading and I am not so sure I can be bothered playing again right now.

Few bugs I noticed; Russian feudal archers sometimes don't walk, they just glide over the grass. Russian Reiter doesn't have a skin; he's entirely green.

I think, aside from that, the only problem I have is accuracy and range of archery compared to even the earliest firearm units.

If your loading a save game you need to.make sure your using the exact same mods or you'll get crashes. Im aware of the Russian Reiter issue and it will be fixed in next update

Hello there, I noticed the Ottoman Empire has not been moded. The units have much longer range of fire and inflict more damage than the Western musketeers. Would be so king as to fix this, and new units for the Eastern empires would be wonderful!

Y'know, I would get this mod if it had an automatic installer. Since I suck at modding, I am pretty sure I would screw up modding this in, then would have to reinstall the game which I will NOT do.
