The second in a series of patches that aim to fix bugs, make the mod easier to edit, balance the gameplay, improve the overall design and remove/replace unfitting content.
This update was a bit overdue because I actually finished developing it in April, but for some time I couldn't use the computer as usual due to some complicated circumstances brought on by the pandemic. I won't say more for now because I plan to make a news post about it all, but regardless the mod is still alive and work on v1.7 will begin soon. Stay tuned.
The following are the changes made by this upgrade:
-Added a reconfirmation prompt with advice for beginners when selecting the hardest difficulty level.
Dev note: The selectable difficulty levels on the main menu have been remade from the scratch, now there are only three skills to choose from (Easy, Normal and Hard) and each one has a name consistent with the Blood thematic. Also, selecting Hard difficulty now recommends you to choose an easier difficulty if you haven't played Blood before.
-Changed the title of MAP01 to "Niflheim".
Dev note: Plenty of map titles have been changed on this update. The reason for this is that many levels had names which were extracted from rock/metal songs or that otherwise were inconsistent with either the Blood or Doom 64 themes. The new map titles are not only consistent with those themes but are also more descriptive of the actual level design in those maps.
-Changed the title of MAP04 to "Muspell".
-Changed the title of MAP13 to "Chaos".
-Changed the title of MAP16 to "Resting Grounds".
-Changed the title of MAP19 to "Fata Morgana".
-Changed the title of MAP20 to "The Purge".
-Changed the title of MAP21 to "The Coil".
-Changed the title of MAP32 to "Corpse Grinder".
-Fixed the error messages that popped up when getting crushed by the hanging platforms on the Platformer 3D mini-game.
-Fixed the error messages that popped up when getting attacked by the unkillable gargoyle in the Target Practice mini-game.
-Item count is no longer relevant on the score screen.
Dev note: The previous update (v1.6b) modified the medicine pouches and armor shards so that they would no longer count towards the item percentage on the score screen, in order to prioritize monster killing and secret finding. This update goes a step further by disabling the percentage calculation altogether.
-Reduced the damage of the grenade attack of the secret boss in MAP17.
Dev note: This boss was already strong enough with its main hitscan attack, but his secondary grenade attack made him overpowered as it was too damaging. Now each grenade only takes around 20/30 points of health each, whereas previously it was much more.
-Removed the lowered gravity on Caleb's jump.
Dev note: Prior to this update, Caleb's jump was affected by a lower gravity setting that made him float mid-air for a second after jumping. Not only did this felt unnatural, but it also made certain platforming elements of the game less challenging.
-Reorganized internal data of the mod to be more easy to read and edit.
Dev note: All of the game data inside the .IPK3 file has now been properly rearranged in order to allow for the best reading/editing experience possible.
-Replaced underwater lava sections with damaging lava floors in MAP01 and MAP04.
Dev note: Not only were the swimmable (and damaging) lava bits in these two maps tedious, but they also made the mod a little unforgiving for newcomers. In their place now there is non-swimmable lava that is more easy to navigate through and looks better with a cool animated texture.
-Reworked selectable difficulty skills on the main menu.
