You're fix didn't work, i put the xgamefinal into the program, all it did was say "Patch EXE finished with errors:
ERROR Failed to create backup: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\HaloWarsDE\xgameFinal.exe
System.IO.IOException: The file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\HaloWarsDE\xgameFinal_UNTOUCHED.exe' already exists.

Once downloaded, open up PhxGui and drag your xgamefinal.exe onto the Phxgui's window
Then after simply move the 2 files (Root.era and Root_update.era) into your main game folder
