Fixes missing radio music, ambient sounds and radio commands in Battlefield Vietnam.
Please remove all compatibility settings from BfVietnam.exe->Properties, and disable administrator permissions as you don't need them and this compatibility fix might not be used if you are running the game with admin permissions.
How It Works
This file fixes some missing audio in Battlefield Vietnam in Windows 10 (and Windows Vista, 7, 8).
This works by using a built-in compatibility feature of Windows. This is NOT the same as choosing Compatibility mode in Properties dialog of an executable file.
The fix is in the .sdb (Shim DataBase) file, it is simply a configuration to use a "WinNT4SP5VersionLie" shim, which means that when Battlefield Vietnam asks Windows for its version, Windows says it's Windows NT4 Service Pack 5. This causes the game to use/not use a game feature which does not work in modern Windows.
This is applied if an executable has exact name "BfVietnam.exe" (make sure you start from that file or shortcut to that file)
This differs from the traditional compatibility available in Windows .exe settings, as no additional layer is added, so the game behaves native.
Installation
- Extract the downloaded zip file to separate directory
- Run bfv_sound_fix_install.bat
- Say yes in privileges prompt dialog
Alternatively open command prompt
cd C:\your-path\to\bfv_sound_fix.sdb
sdbinst.exe -q "bfv_sound_fix.sdb"
Uninstallation
- Go to Programs and Features in Windows Control Panel
- Uninstall "Battlefield Vietnam Audio Fix"

I recently installed BF:V on my Win10 (I had it on my WinXP for over a decade) and noticed no in-game sounds played and I was baffled why the radio doesn't work. Switched and tinkered everything and selected every compatibility option but nothing worked.
This file fixes everything and now I can finally play Ride of the Valkyries while gunning down enemies from my Huey on my brand new OS machine.
This file is a 10/10 as it is MANDATORY to enjoy the game on new OSes. Thank you very much goes to the author of this fix.

You should make sure the game executable name is BfVietnam.exe when running the game. Also make sure there are no compatibility options set in BfVietnam.exe, right click, properties, Compatibility tab.

I tried it but now it says it doesn’t recognize the cd. My guess: a recent security patch broke this. PS. Not really related but 98/ME or 95 compat causes a crash. Update: Got the CD Cracker to work but it still isn’t working.
I uninstalled and now it refuses to install. I am pn windows 8.1 btw
Update: the System32 says “failed to copy file” then “failed to delete file” then Couldn’t Delete Battlefield Vietnam Audio Fix from Registrythen it says Uninstallation of Battlefield Vietnam Audio Fix complete. Hope this helps.
Final update: Got it working. Make sire you either update Windows to latest or revert if there are no updates.
Thanks you so much for the patch !!! now i can here those nostalgic character voices again.
Works perfectly, thanks!
Works! Thank you very much!

It does not work, if I turn off compatibility and admin mode the game just blackscreen and crashes.
Thanks a lot bro. It works very well on my BFVietnam.exe with no compatibility mode (My OS is Windows 10).
It fixes the radio problem, but cuts the music after a while somewhat, and I can't realy bring it back.
