Is half life 2 itself a source mod? and do you need any expansions for it? Please let me know as I want BG2!!! :S
A mod is a modification of a game, so therefore a Source mod is a modification of a Source game (a game that runs on the Source engine, an engine created by Valve for use in their game Half-Life 2). You can buy Half-Life 2 on Steam. Once you've done that, you can download the Source SDK Base (2006 and/or 2007 versions) through Steam. When you download and play mods such as Battle Grounds 2, it will run through the Source SDK Base, which is basically the Source engine ready to be modded.
So when people say something is a Half-Life 2 mod, they usually mean a Source mod.
So do you need HL 2 game installed or just the SDK Base 2006/2007 installed? I have every HL 2 game there is but they're uninstalled at the moment and was wanting to save HD space.
You just need to install the source SDK 2007.
Also Hoki or anyone else who can help me can you explain the download information and installing it as I have absolutely no idea as to installing mods on any games... I'm green when it comes to computer management but i dont see why i cant play great games...

installing BG2 is very easy, here is a small rundown of how to download and install Battle Grounds 2.
1. First, download the file either from our direct mirror or by hitting the Download Now button on the ModDB download details.

2. After the download has completed, start the .exe installer by double clicking on it. You will see an installation window popup. Complete the installation process. The installer will try to find the correct place to install BG2 to. It must be in Steam directory in the SourceMods subfolder (most often C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\SourceMods\) as bg2.
3. After the installation is complete, restart Steam. Battle Grounds 2 should now appear in your Steam games list.
If you have any problems, don't hesitate to register on our forums at Forums.bgmod.com and post your question there.
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH, I WAS UP LAST NIGHT FOR LIKE 3 HOURS STUCK ON HOW TO GET THE DAMN GAME UP SO I COULD PLAY IT. I have a steam account and i downloaded the free Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, will this work? Or do I need to buy the actual entire thing? Plz help, This game is pretty cool.

i dowloaded it and when i click on the file it says that there was an error this is wat it says exactly
Installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installer's author to obtain new copy.

I have a question to play this mode do you need to have and the other episodes of hl2? I have download it i have install it and when i open steam it is not there, i close steam and i open it again and it is not there again. Any help?
