Ab Urbe Condita VI is a marked improvement on Platinum, and includes major graphical updates, new scripts for AI funds, brand new log walls, improved textures, better/new UI cards, reskins and bugfixes. This version is also harder, and gives the player a much more rewarding challenge!
VI (v6) changes are as follows:
* Incorporated RSIII battlemap water textures; kept the original RSII terrain/trees due to personal preference and style. The new water is a MASSIVE improvement on the original, and complements the pre-existing battlemaps well.
* New custom logwalls added (the base courtesy of RedFox); Tier 2 walls and forts now contain towers and parapets which you or the AI can defend/attack (making forts that much more useful in defending a choke point or strategic region).
* New strat textures (based on Prometheus') for all ports; every culture (Roman/Eastern/Carthaginian/Egyptian/Greek/Barbarian) now has their own proper strat models, which complement the originals by Prometheus rather well.
* New AI scripts created in order to allow the AI to present a bigger challenge to the player. Accordingly, the starting budget has been cut drastically to accommodate this. The AI will now receive a cash boost when they run out
of funds. You should see peripheral factions like Baktria, Numidia, Thrace and Dacia expand a little bit more now!
* The Britons have been removed from Ireland; now they only own the 2 initial starter regions in England. Given the landbridge and new AI script I feel that starting territory is unnecessary, and may encourage the AI to expand
southwards into Gaul (or remain in Britannia!).
* Dun Ailinne is now a Rebel Village. Also expanded the size of Malta.
* Additional landbridges added to Arabia and the Chersonese; this will allow the Sabaean AI to potentially invade mainland Africa (or the other way round), as well as allow movement between Panticapaeum and Tanais in Scythia.
* Shiny new exe has replaced the original batch file; this hopefully circumvents the annoying "launch check" on Steam.
* Additional text fixes/campaign description improvements.
* Further additions to UI, in particular event messages.
* Removed an incorrect loading screen and replaced it with an alternative.
* Territory around Tomi cut slightly; now the provincial border runs directly along the Danube.
* Mercenary recruitment for Gordyene, Sophene and Aria fixed. These regions now recruit the correct units.
* Multiple unit fixes, including:-
- Additional pikemen skins; every Diadochi faction now has their own individual Machimoi, Kleruchoi and Pezhetairoi Pikemen skins.
- Huge new array of officers for the Eastern, Hellenistic, Barbarian and Semitic factions.
- New generals/lesser generals for Numidia and Spain, with accompanying strat models for the campaign map. Spain has been made more barbaric (in line with their Celtiberian roots) and now use barbarian generals.
- Auxiliary Cavalry face tearing glitch fixed.
- Parthian Noble Cataphracts removed as general_unit. This removes an old bug where both Noble Cataphracts and Generals Bodyguard units made Parthian generals. They are now a normal elite cavalry unit, and still recruitable!
- Roman Triarii now only use spears in combat (previous versions switched to swords, negating the spear bonuses). Also, Roman Auxilia have improved battlemap shields.
- New skins for Spanish Scortamareva (now spearmen, rather than javelinmen). To compensate, Scortamareva stats have been increased.
- Improperly aligned weapons fixed for Garamantine soldiers, with minor stat improvements.
- Cost changes for Scortamareva and Roman Auxilia.
- Longshield Cavalry removed from Spanish roster (to comply with their more "barbaric" roster). Only Numidia uses this unit now.
- Epirote Agema UI tweaked.
- Argive, Corinthian, Byzantine and Rhodian hoplite shield textures fixed.
- Decorative Feathers added to Seleucid Argyraspide helmets (Silver Shield Pikemen).
- Barbarian chariot textures finally fixed!
- New Noble Cavalry skins for Spain and Gaul.
- New General skin for Gaul and Britons (Briton skin is located in the optional download).
- Terrain around Rhodes lowered (now you can actually see the city on the campaign map).
Nice work man.
Thank you! Apologies for taking the old VI down; I stupidly forgot to add some things.
Sorted now ;)
Update: I can actually only get the game to open 1 time using the desktop shortcut. After opening the game (right after installing) using the desktop shortcut, the AUC application file disappears from the rome total war alexander game folder. Then, after exiting AUC and trying to launch the game again using the desktop shortcut I get an error message stating "The item AUC Launcher.exe that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly." It has to be the bat to exe converter, because im getting the same issue with AUC 5.2. The only version I can get to work properly is AUC 5.1. I want to play version VI of this fantastic mod. Any help would be much appreciated, once again.
It sounds like your antivirus is blocking the exe from launching or performing properly. Can you try disabling your antivirus for a minute, launching the game and seeing if that works?
Furthermore, if you have any other RTW mods (namely Invasio Barbarorum or Roma Surrectum III) it might interfere with AUC. Try removing these mods first.
is this compatible with non-english versions? I for once employ an old CD-based German Rome.
Yes, it should be compatible. However it will be in English. Sorry =/
what difficulty should one play on with this mod?
Entirely upto you bud; I personally play VH/VH but I find the AI to be hyper-aggressive in such settings. Give it a go on H/H and see how that pans out!
Did you re-upload this file? I got a message in the updates section, and I'm pretty sure I downloaded this before October 3rd, the date it says this file was added. Or did you change anything and we should re-download?
I reuploaded the other day, as a bug meant that many of my planned additions never actually worked ingame. So, I took it down for a day, made the fixes, and uploaded it again.
To answer your question; aye I reckon you'd need to download it again to get the new changes.
Nice to see RTW modding and AUC is still alive and kicking ! Well done mate, updating my install now...
Thank you! Hope you enjoy mate!
I have a problem. When I am on the strategic map in the campaign, it lag a lot. What can I do?
Campaign map? Have you got a suitably powerful computer for it?
Also, the new scripts allow the AI to field massive forces, which may make your PC go a bit slower (but nothing too shocking). How bad is it?
It isn't very bad,but it's annoying..I have a laptop and I asked because during the battles there is no lag..however,great mod!
I think this is a Windows 10 issue (I've heard people complain about this with new GPUs). I'm sorry I can't help at hand, but I DO know that it's a common issue - maybe try googling about campaign lag with newer rigs =)
For some reason it crashes shortly after I use the launcher and it says:
"Script Error in data/settlement_plans/roman_town.txt, at line 83, column 1.
Name not recognized: 'roman_greek_shrine_round_group' - make sure you defined it in descr_building_battle.txt, or as a slot or group in descr_settlement_plan.txt"
What did I do wrong?
strange - it links to the original files (if it were my mod, it would say "script error in AUC/data/settlement_plans).
Have you installed it to RTW Alexander, or RTW Gold?
If it's Steam, install to RTW Alexander. Also make sure to verify the integrity of your Alexander game.
Thanks! It works properly now! Apparently, my RTW Alexander needed to be verified and reinstalled.
No problem bud; hope you enjoy the mod ;)
Hey this mod looks great if you enjoy the vanilla feel, but I was wondering is this mod 4 turns per year?
Nope, it's just the standard 2 turns per year bud, sorry!
Please reply this man, I don't use steam and I don't have Rome Total War Alexander expansion. I only have Rome Total War Gold Edition. I have installed the game but it didn't work, when I run the launcher the bat shows up then when the waiting is over for the bat, the game does not open. I have tried to run the game at every location , The Creative Assembly, Rome Total War Gold Edition, Rome Total War Gold Edition / BI. It's just not working, I want to play the game but it doesn't open, like I said I run the bat when the bat closes himself up, I look at the screen and nothing happens. Please help me I'm waiting for you to reply
The bat says this before it closes itself up, 'RomeTW-ALX.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Then it closes itself up
Sorry for the late response; can you tell me the directory in which it is installed? In RTW Gold it must be installed to the RTW Gold main folder (not data, not BI, not ALX). The right folder also contains the exe files.
PS; does your RTW Gold contain RTW-ALX.exe in the installation folder? It should.
Thank you for replying I have solved the problem already and playing it since yesterday, it works well and the mod looks very good +1. I didn't knew that it was mandatory to have Alexander expansion to run the game, I thought that having BI and RTW was enough.
Ahh I see. Yep, Alexander is a requirement - good that you got it working, and I'm glad you enjoy the mod!
Will this add multithreading? I find myself struggling to run this game, the same one that runs every other game flawlessly on higher settings.
Unfortunately the older Total War games are unable to utilise multithreading - I play on a modern powerful rig, yet encounter occasional stuttering when on huge battles =/
does this have a unit id
By this do you mean Unit Cards and Unit Descriptions?
If you go into the mod and check "Custom Battle" you will see every unit the game adds (there are far too many to showcase in the pictures unfortunately) - give it a go and enjoy!
hwo to install?
The installer is automatic - simply guide it to the correct folder (see instructions above).
Remember, you must have Alexander TW installed for it to work.
game dont work =(
What exactly is the problem with your installation? Does it crash, are there graphical glitches etc?
Have you installed it to the correct folder?
unit ids plssssss

Can I install it without deleting the old version?
If the old version is VI, then yes, you should be able to install it over the old version =)
Great mod Thanks mate
Very welcome! Hope you enjoy it!
I have two problems i can play but when i open the game appears an advise n tell "open a texture that was destroyed" and i had to close the alexander exe from homework administrator and try again the second problem is the loadign screens appears on white that have a solution?
Oh dear!
First off; have you got Rome Total War Alexander installed? It needs RTW Alexander to function.
2nd - is it installed correctly? It MUST be installed in the Alexander folder. Sometimes the installer can't find your installation files (especially if you've custom installed the game) so you might need to point the installer in the right direction.
I solved all of the above I changed the operating system to Windows 8 lol, but now just load the first image and that's it I can't play :( (I have rtw gold edition) then I install the mod in alx.exe folder What would be the folder of gold edition
Strange; if you can locate the following file try installing it to there:
C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Rome Total War Alexander
If you have RTW Gold then install it to the following:
C:/Program Files/Creative Assembly (or SEGA, or both)/Rome Total War Gold
PS - Sorry for the late reply!
Hi can verify integrity of the game after your mod is installed?
If you're asking "do you need to verify the integrity of the game cache" after installation, then no - it should run fine without any problems.
If you want to be safe, go ahead - it shouldn't cause any problems ;)
Hi! I play this mod since the first version, I reaaly love it and how much it changed since then, but there is a few questions I have:
1.- Is it possible to get back de Early Republican Legion? I really love them as a main legionary unit, the easy way to get them (On a Minor City Barracks) is great too, also the Legionary and Roman Cavalry (those are my fav) and Praetorian Cavalry, why I can't recruit them? I like Auxiliary Cavalry Stats but I prefer cheaper and good cavalry for going thru an entire global expansion!
2.- Is it possible to every faction can train better units on Minor City levels? I don't mind fighting low-tier phalanx or light-armored barbarians, but it is a little bit boring when I have mid-tier/high-tier units and battles last long 5 minutes :p
As well the Triarri for romans, it will be best if I can train them on early stages.
Hope anyone can help me on this, I apologize for my bad english XD
Greetings anf thanks!
I deleted the Early Legion models from the game unfortunately; as I figured that after the Marian Reforms it would be the lorica hamata or segmentata; I opted for the latter.
Easy enough to mod back in though. As for the lack of cavalry; given that Rome typically had poor cavalry in comparison to its neighbours, I wanted to prevent them being "steamrollers", so their cavalry is ok, but nothing on par with the Carthaginians or Hellenistic states.
As for the units; unfortunately the crappy units is an AI issue; I've tried mitigating it by giving the AI a money script but it seems to love recruiting levy pikemen and militia hoplites ad nauseam. Although I've tested the game a lot as Rome, fought Macedon and the Greek Cities, and they were using pretty good units against me.....
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Hope that helps!
