this is because I packed the debug version of metahook.dll so that this dll didn't work without MS Visual Studio 2005 installed.
the broken main menu might be fixed...?

If main menu is still broken, try ckf3.exe rather than hl.exe or Steam, it should work.
Nothing works. I tried the ckf3.eve and even tried running it by using the "change game" option in half-life.

And when I use the change game option in half-life it would just crash
I can only get alpha 1 to work on my windows 8 computer, the other versions give the application failed to start error. I tried using alpha 3 files with the alpha 1 launcher and it started up, but closed when i made a server. It probably was cus I was using windows xp though.
