The Beginning

Back in 2005, Monkeyface Studio's founder Colin Mancer was enjoying a nice, boring life as a corporate graphic designer and illustrator. On the advice of his friends/roommates/fellow videogame obsessives Raigan and Mare of Metanet (N++), he switched the focus of his creative juices to videogame art and animation and founded Monkeyface Studios. His first industry work was creating art and animation for a still-to-be-released (!) RPG where he worked along side Jon Mak of Queasy Games. Years later, Jon and Colin once again collaborated on Sound Shapes, Mak's award-winning game for Playstation 3 / 4 / Vita. Colin provided art, animation and level design for one of the campaign's 5 albums, Beyonder, in addition to the same duties on the DLC album, Do You Wheelie Want To Hurt Me. While working on the title, Colin became good friends with Sound Shapes lead programmer, Brian Faber. A 13-year industry veteran and massive enthusiast of retro gaming (who got his first PC at age 7), Brian got his start on GBA games and has since developed for pretty much every platform imaginable - including working at a VR start-up. Once development of Sound Shapes was complete, the game's team members went their separate ways but that was not to last. In 2015, Colin and Brian would once again join forces to work on a new title while evolving Monkeyface Studios a full-fledged game design company.

Circularium

In the summer of 2015, Monkeyface's Colin and Brian joined forces with sound studio South River Sound to create Circularium, their unconventional contribution to match game genre. Combining an easy-to-learn matching mechanic, a meditative sound space and rapidly evolving in-game difficulty, the game has received very positive user reviews with players calling it, "very creative", "a challenging and original game" and "simultaneously addictive and calming".
