Piknik is a Reshade preset that aims to give Anomaly more natural feeling lighting and shadows in every climate. Expand description for screenshots.
IMPORTANT - If you downloaded any version previous to v1f3, please update! Latest update contains critical fixes!
None of the available Anomaly Reshade presets were quite to my liking, whether they be too bright, too dark, too desaturated, blurry, or too much contrast; so I created Piknik.
I've tried to achieve a few things with this preset:
- Natural, unbiased colours without artificial tinting.
- Bright days that won't blind you.
- Naturally coloured, deep shadows that are not pitch black.
- Much less flat-looking overcast weathers.
- Subtle bloom that won't blind you and won't incorrectly apply to random objects.
- Natural-looking ambient light.
- Dark unlit interiors that are not pitch black, and very dark nights.
- Very subtle AO to make object shadowing less flat.
- No motion blur, DoF, over-sharpening or other image blurring effects.
Remember, the same area can look very different depending on weather and TOD, adjust your game's weather settings accordingly. Most screenshots were taken using the "clear" and "partly" weathers.
Requirements:
- A working Reshade install (obviously) | Reshade.me
Installation:
- Install the Reshade preset file itself just as any other with newer versions of reshade. If you don't know how to do this, check out the "installation" section of this guide and follow it until you reach step 5, then copy my mod to your game files and refer to this handy image. If your Reshade settings align with those, you're set.
- Edit your Weather frequency and Night Brightness in the game weather settings menu to align with your preferences. Otherwise you may find nights may be too dark/bright for your liking, and you won't get a lot of bright sunny days like in the screenshots!
- Consider setting "Object Detail" to max in you graphics settings, otherwise you'll see some very ugly distant terrain in some weathers.
A warm thanks to Michiko for providing the weathers that this preset uses as a base, be sure to check their work out here: Moddb.com
Changelog:
- v1f1 Update - Added bundled Reshade shaders for increased ease of install.
- v1f2 Update - Fixed .ini file directories. Sorry about that!
- v1f3 Update - Critical fixes regarding aggressive colour clipping in some situations, causing NVG and other effects to break. Removed redundant Reshade binaries.
- v1f4 Update - Added some distant fog to all weathers that were missing it. This fixes the issue of the ugly grey distant distant terrain LOD being visible.
Use or modify this preset as you see fit. Feedback is appreciated!
Video??
Added a lot of screenshots for now, will post a video later.
Will give this a try, it looks great.
Lovely screenshots, gonna give it a try.
2к или 4к? Или реально просто решейд?
Не уверен, что понимаю. Это шейдер.
Он работает независимо от разрешения экрана.
Very very niceeee!!
Can't try this out for now unfortunately... could you tell what is the expected impact on the performance?
I have installed it, with no noticeable impact. Looks very nice, I think I will stick to it for the rest of my gameplay.
Have you compared it to another reshades?
PikNik looks better, but seems to hit FPS slightly harder than a few of the other ones I have installed.
I also have a ton of HD/4K crap installed, the 1050Ti is getting beat up!
Ok, I admit, my fault. The "noticeable impact" I wrote about is strictly subjective, which I have not mentioned above. I have not made FPS analysis, as well as this is 1st reshade ever I have used with Anomaly - so I have no such comparison. Sorry for being imprecise, which could lead to false impression.
Sorry, didn't mean to be over the top. Everyone has a different setup. There are quite a few nice reshades here, I think they all have some performance hit.
Lowering grass/sun/shadow settings can easily offset any FPS hits from a reshade.
Like the others have said, impact can vary wildly from setup to setup. I have a good pc so for me is 1-3 fps at most, but some people with lower end rigs tell me they get up to ~18% fps loss.
You can try turning off PPFX SSDO in the Reshade panel. Dark areas will look a tiny bit worse but you might get improved performances on low end rigs.
Thank you all for the answers!
Reshade addon packaging tip: cancel out your own folder directory in those INI files before you ship it so user don't get confused why it didn't work.
For example:
CurrentPresetPath=C:\STALKER Anomaly\bin\PiknikRS.ini
change to
CurrentPresetPath=.\PiknikRS.ini
notice the dot before the slash
I thought for sure I did this already, must have uploaded the wrong file. Should be fixed now. Thanks for the heads-up!
Dude, good call.
Remove Reshade.ini from your archive it ***** up reshade location folder for other users who do not have their games installed in C:\Stalker Anomaly direction.
Speaking about reshade itself, pretty nice, gone run it for a while at least, thx)
P.S.S. LevelsPlus effect absolutelly brakes NVG so reconsider using it or whatever.
Fixed Reshade.ini so that it works with generic install, sorry for that.
Since I use night vision mods, I did not notice NVG breaking. I'll see what I can do to fix it, but Levels plus is like, the whole main shader that this preset is based on, so not using it is not an option.
I'll figure something out for next release. In the meantime consider using this NVG mod if you have a good pc: Moddb.com
They work great with this preset.
So it turns out fixing NVGs was super easy and was being caused by a dirty edit of mine... Sorry about that. I just uploaded an update which should fix the issue entirely.
Yep!) Thx, checked it out, now everything seems working like it should be, great job!) thx once again:)
By far the best reshade i've seen on this site imo
Thanks! I appreciate it.
Damn son, that top image looks like a bloody photograph! :-)
Can you post your preset so that i can make it look just like the screenshots?
Not sure I follow. This is the preset to make it look like the screenshots! You can download it right up there friend.
To anyone who downloaded the preset before version v1f3, I'd recommend to update! Latest version contains a critical fix to a colour correction bug that was breaking some game effects!

does this work with anomaly rc18?
Well I'm not crashing on RC18 so theres taht.
It does. For both RC18 and RC19.
hello, if I dont have the Michiko's Weather Revamp installed I can just install it?
Yes, you can use it without Michiko's. Just don't install anything from the gamedata folder. Only the bin folder. You still need to install Reshade yourself, that is absolutely required.
Also, consider that without Michiko's it won't look exactly like the screenshots.
Edit: Michiko's mod is no longer required at all for the latest version of Piknik to work.
Is there a way to edit Michiko's files to add just a tiny bit of fog in far distant landscape on clear weather? Distant textures are changed into grayish and less detailed ones, and without some fog covering them they look odd (looking with binoculars restores detailed texture). P.S. I dont ask it on Michiko's add-on page, coz he seems to be allergic with fog ;)
Yes there is, I'll probably do it myself on the next version of the mod.
For now, I'd recommend increasing the "object detail" setting in you graphic options to max. That will make the grey terrain less visible.
Edit: This has been fixed on the latest version of the mod.
Thank you :) yes, it helped a bit.
There is a minor performance drop, in my case it's ~12fps but the game just look amazing. This is how Anomaly should look like. Great shader!
Loving your preset man. I have been playing with it since Day one, And makes the game look so good.
A terrific reshade. Where others felt rather heavy-handed, Piknik (the Roadside variety?) has genuinely set a new standard, thank you.
Two things I want to mention.
Firstly, I'm not sure I understand the logic behind installing Michiko's weather add-on in the first place, since it seems that your files replace pretty much all of theirs anyway. Am I missing something? What's the catch here?
Secondly, I'd noticed that when I keep Michiko's weather files, the nights remain correctly lit, however when replaced with your modded versions I find that objects and structures become unnaturally bright, sticking out from the rest significantly. It can be alleviated by turning down in-game gamma option, however I then loose the nice shaded gamma balance in daytime. In other words, I seem to be getting better result when keeping Michoko's original weather files intact.
Could you comment on what you've done there, and what the difference between his set and yours is?
Again, terrific work, thank you.
Thanks for the kind words! The title is definitely a nod to Roadside Picnic, which happens to be my favourite novel.
You are correct, my files replace all of Michiko's, so you don't actually need to install it first. For some reason I had the idea there were some extra config files bundled in their mod, but I guess that's not the case. I've edited the description for accuracy.
As for the nights, you can tweak their brightness in the game settings menu, under Visual > Night > Ambient Night Brightness
Change this from the main menu, before loading into your game, or it won't work for some reason. Try setting it to "dark nights", and if it still looks unnaturally bright let me know!
thanks for this, presents looks nice
I used your reshade but .... the helmet effects are gone now also is there any menu I can call and make tweaks? Not sure if this is working properly... using 1.5 version. Thanks
The mod does not contain any files related to helmet effects, only reshade files and weather settings. If they're missing you might have disabled them in the game menu.
You can tweak the preset from the reshade settings menu. You can open it by pressing the "Home" button on your keyboard.
Really liking this! Tasteful and minimalistic and sharp. What are the lumscale and tonemap settings you used for your screenshots btw?
Thanks! Sorry for the late response.
I assume you're asking about the Reshade shader settings? On every screenshot, I'm using the settings exactly as I've provided them in the download by default.
This is absolutely beautiful, I love it! Thank you very much!
It's so beautiful man, the best reshade i ever seen!
