Awesome dude, once on a duty-ironman run. I played for hours to build a squad to get through Radar safely, only to get ambushed by the entire ******* Freedom Base and lose 3/4 of them.
May I recommend adding a payment for you hiring them?
Instead of getting them for free you should allow the other option, where you hire the NPC for X amount of days instead of having him permanently be your partner.
Regardless this is a sweet mod and I love the idea. I was just suggesting a balance option :).
