Orbital Space Station New Horizon was the last orbital habitat to reach construction completion and full occupancy before the plague struck. It was larger and more advanced than any previously built, fully supporting tens of thousands of citizens with its highly efficient self supporting technology. New Horizon was a new technology, one that could change the way in which the human race lived on the Earth's surface. New Horizon was an orbital power station, collecting solar radiation to be converted and beamed to massive collection stations on the Earth's surface where it would then be converted into electricity and distributed among the urban and rural areas of many countries. Enormous amounts of power could be harnessed by this system, enough to meet the needs of several of the largest countries on the planet.With the Earth bound collection stations having recently been brought back to a fully operational status by the few scientists that remain, it had been deemed that the time had come to attempt to reclaim New Horizon. Its highly advanced technology and power generating capabilities far too valuable to be left sitting idle any longer.Like all other orbital habitats, New Horizon had been infested by alien life forms of unknown origin, however unlike other orbital habitats, scans run by passing spacecraft had shown that New Horizon remained in a mostly powered-up and operational state, probably due to its highly advanced computer control systems. In Earth's orbit aboard the Warship Titan, Special Operations Command Headquarters created plans for a Special Forces SPARTAN force to board and clear New Horizon of all alien infestation. Knowing that this ambitious operation may take several months to complete, plans were also created for a smaller company-sized operation to secure and restart New Horizon's main power station systems immediately so that power could begin to be beamed to the Earth's surface as soon as possible.This secondary Operation was called Operation New Horizon..
