Problem arises when people tries to add more addons(or update the existing ones) on top of modpacks(which they surely will, everyone gets twitchy when new addons come out).
Then they start to get crashes and bugs with no knowledge on how to resolve them. That's the main reason we're against modpacks
The gallus viewmodels are a good example

Can you explain what it is about gallus vievmodels?

I can sure see your point, people always tinker with stuff and then the questions get directed to people that may have just altered stuff themselfes to get it to work and are not really that able to fix everyones specific problems.

Thats why i wanted to upload a pack i have a good experience and fun with so far, so people can just plug and play without having crashes all the time. As said above i didnt want to offend or insult anyone, and did not want to steal any credit, the credit goes to all the people that did those addons or where involved in them, its their great work and theirs only, i just merely put it together. Did my best to put all the names in there now aswell, and as mentioned before: If people are mad about this or insulted by it i´d be willing to take it down again aswell, no problem.

Well for a start, a lot of people don't like it. Most people, including me prefers EFT reposition
Secondly it was last updated on February. Blindsides reanim was updated a month later, Boomsticks and sharpsticks had two updates but no updates for gallus viewmodels. Copy pasting hands and aim offsets may not work for all guns as their scopes and models could've changed. And its hella lot of work for you to do to check about 200+ guns and all their scoped variants
EFT reposition has patches for BaS, JSRS and blindsides
And with every update, you'd have to update as well.
And I noticed you recommending jsgme, big mistake. Use mod organizer 2, its easier to explain if you were in anomaly discord server

I can see your point, though i think some of it comes down to preference, like the mod manager, but that doesnt really matter i think.
The base for the weapon positions was Position and View by Cement, which was also recommended for BaS by Mich if i recall correctly, and Gallus update only alters the guns touched by Blindside, so i cant really follow you on why BaS would need an update for gallus viewmodels since it isnt affected by it, at least not in the order i set the addons up. I also did tweak 4-5 guns at one point, and ended up only altering 2 in the end, namely having alt. aim for AUG and L85, so yes i know that its alot of work, if you were to adjust them all. But as said above there is no need for it in this case cause they all line up pretty much the same.

I honestly didnt have any intentions on updating this modpack in the future, rather to have it as a "as is" for now, but im thankfull you brought it up, i´ll add the Anomaly version number to it so people dont use it in the future when its already outdated by then.

Yesterday someone reported a screwed up position for vepr12 kobra sight from gallus viewmodels, and I bet there is more. Its important to stay updated. Also, BaS modifies a few guns in blindsides reanim. you see the point?
Also about mod managers, its not just preference. MO2 is just better, because it uses virtual file system and it will never corrupt your original installation. Jsgme on the other hand doesn't know which backup file to replace. File gets left behind when uninstalling, game tries to read it and pair it with the other stuff from that addon that got successfully removed and boom crash
We do support one modpack: escape from pripyat. Because the author has about 150 addons packaged in MO2 archives and users can turn mods on/off or update anytime with a few clicks. And has a dedicated discord server with 3k members
Mich recommended using jsgme and position and view, but it was several months ago when MO2 and EFT repos didn't exist, I should probably tell him to update the description

Noice modpack. honestly i like modpack more than dowloading mod one by one. Also if the modpack doesnt crash itself. i dont really add extra mods over modpacks bcoz i know it will mess it up. i used provaks mod for quite sometime but it had many crashes when switching to guns or sometimes when changing settings mid game, without extra addons added by me. it saves the time for me looking for a single mod and adding it. if u plan to add more mods i would request add eft weapon pack, taz 2.0 and taz 3.0 guns, gunslinger guns and combining em all etc. i havent tried mixing different weapon packs but i hope someone comes wirh all the coolest weapon mods (not vanilla anomaly or vanilla stalker or weapon overhaul ones) combined modpack. Thank u for this :)

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated. I tried adding taz 3.0 but then the game doesnt launch it all. Im not really a modder myself so i wont look that much deeper into it, compiling this pack was a lot of trial and error aswell cause some mods need to be in the right order(i´d highly recommend JSGME mod manager for doing that) and some addons need to be installed manually, which makes identifying errors more complicated, at least for me, as said im not really a modder.
Hope you have fun with it anyway though :)

Hm u r right. I do have jsgme but as i have an hdd adding a single mod took half a hour i.e B and S mod and laptop was unresponsive, imagine adding eft, taz 2 and 3, stcop wp, shoker wp, gunslinger wp lol, and there is also this thing in merging that it will replace other modded guns which i dont want to, except if replaces all the plastic vanilla guns lol, i have only seen provak do this but as he added quest and many gameplay mods aswell, he f*kd it up,hopefully someone will merge the good weapon packs

I mean modpacks can be annoying because of lack of credit and other issues but Frenekel I think you did fine +rep

It's really not about credits. Mainly because people have an urge to install more addons on top of non-modular modpacks, they then come to Anomaly discord and ask for help with crashes. It can be frustrating when you there trying to help just to realize after 20 minutes that person doesn't use moddb addon, but a patched version of it with god knows what tweaks. Time feels wasted, especially since it happens way too often (damn provak).

Thats a big problem indeed and i wouldnt want to have you people annoyed because someone used my modpack and messed around with it, so i updated the description in hopes that it maybe helps to have less people flocking to the discord and wasting your guys´time with problems they caused themselves.

You'd probably know that not many people like modpacks, some including me think it steals from the creators of the addons and most of the time people who don't know much about modding come asking for help with crashes that can't really be fixed when they installed a modpack and 10 other mods on top of it. You could have tried asking for permission before posting this or at least add proper credits.

You're being ridiculous. All mod authors are fully credited in the description. Modpacks make it easier for people to enjoy the game, a quick download and then play. Some people don't have the time to merge dozens of mods together, so these packs save all the work. If you don't like it then that's too bad, move along.

That's not the way to diagnose :)
I can say with certainty that its a missing dds file from Nav's masks

Im sure its not but as said im not a modder so im open to any advice.

For a file to be missing it would have to be altered or tinkered with in some way, cause im using the exact same pack and after the comment i checked all the helmets in my game, without issues or an screen alterations.

I get that you're not a modder, but if you're gonna upload a mod, you should make sure you know how to reply to issues with more than "Do as I did", "did you install properly?", "If it worked for me, it'll work for you"
Those are not diagnosing. And as I said in my previous comment, people will surely tinker with it. Even more so because your modpack is rather small for most people.
Purple color comes when the engine cannot detect a texture file, which could arise from the dds being deleted or a wrong path inside a config(more likely the latter)

I'm sorry dude, but modpacks are just re-uploads of other people's work, without adding *anything* of substance.
Don't do that. Just don't.

Reply Good karma Bad karma-2 votes

Frenekel - - 110 comments

One way to look at it sure, but if you consider how ModDb is flooded with reuploads that add nothing and only alter stuff in the slightest way, modpacks at least give you the ease of installation, in this case at least. By your point of view half of all the ModDb files out there shouldnt be there in the first place then, cause they dont really add anything.

Adding all the stuff together and making it work is time consuming aswell and mind you, what i did was minimal, imagine someone putting 50 or 60 addons together and make them work, thats the real effort.
The "thing of substance" i added in this case was the ease of pretty much "plug&play;". You dont have to like it, you dont have to download it, but theres people that like stuff like this otherwise modpacks like Provaks or Escape from Pripyat/Chernobyl wouldnt be out there.

And as i said many times before: Im not a modder or anything, im just a guy that likes to play Anomaly and wanted to share the setup i play with and enjoy, i really dont get whats the big deal about it honestly, its not like its hasnt been done times before.

Mods in your pack are pretty easy to merge for most people, while Provaks and EFP are (I think idk these packs) the result of many hours of merging and tweaking, so it makes sens to share it with other people who have no time to do merge like this. Maybe im wrong on these packs but thats how I see things. Sorry if I have a bad english.

I completely agree with you, but as you said, for most of people its easy to merge, for some it isnt and this kinda pack is for those people. Its not huge or special or anything but some people still might find some fun in it and if even only person enjoyed it, thats enough for me to say uploading was worth it.

Honestly tho, apart from porting weapons from tarkov pack and gunslinger, provak's pack is a poor piece of work. Bugged and outdated. EFP on the other hand, the author knows what he's doing. He's packaged it in MO2, updates and has a dedicated discord server of 3k+ members

these addons are literally drop-in lmao this argument is just not true. How about taking a look at a readme? fyi if you can't do that, you have much bigger problems than just not being able to install an addon.

Thats exactly why i made this modpack... if you´d just "drop in" the addons in a random way/order they wouldnt work or your game would crash on equipping certain guns for example.
But hey, you do you

Hey, im sorry to hear that. Did you use a clean anomaly install and the settings stated above? Namely DirectX cause that can **** up some things sometimes.
If so, is it happening for every helmet or just a particular one? Shouldt be any problem if no files where altered in anyway and you just copy and paste it, im using the exact thing i uploaded and for me its fine.

I really don't get the hate for modpacks, just don't download it people. As long as the author credited the original artists, everything is fine.

Geez, sometimes Mod DB can feel like a YT comment section, everyone just parroting each other and making drama.

Anyway, personally I don't use modpacks but this one looks pretty cool, maybe I can download it some time.

Great job with the mod pack! Simple and neat, and not convoluted with unnecessary add-ons.
One problem though, when I put on the respirator, it has a pitch black mask overlay that just blocks the whole screen.

I tried the pack with a fresh Anomaly install, and the issue would appear. However if I install the Navs 4K Definitive Masks on top of the modpack that will solve the problem.

Does it crash on startup or when loading a savegame? Or does it occur when you equip certain items? If so tell me what so i can try to replicate it.
Did you use both hotfixes, like the ak105 and the one that fixes the optics?
And more important, did you load an old save or started a new game? Loading older saves can lead to ctd´s,thats what happened to me aswell and thats why i added the note in the description.

I made a full fresh new folder for this pack, no saves or anything. I placed the modpack inside the anomaly folder like the instructions say, I ran it with just the modpack and it ran smoothly, I added the Ak105 fix and it worked still, but as I added the hotfix over it, it is always CTD not even get into the main menu.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

Okay, then try to only run the Ak105 hotfix after the install, i know what the problem is, it was my fault actually.
When i reuploaded the pack ealier this month the hotfix was already included, removed the download now aswell, so when just putting the modpack and the AK105 pack in it should work fine, as you already tried, and the two optic fixes i applied are included there already.

Again, i apologize, that was completely my fault, but i hope you can have some fun with the modpack otherwise :)
