Description

Centers the iron-sights, holo-sights, and 3D scopes in Arsenal Overhaul 3. Also sets zoom scaling to usable degree. Also improves handling, corrects rate of fire and ballistics. It's a bit nuts.

Just some quick notes.

I buffed the knife fairly significantly. Boxes die in one right-click, as does most anything less tough than a box. For your info, boars are about as strong as boxes! In the early game, you may think the knife is very over-powered. Hold that thought. We'll have a good chuckle about it together when you're in the late game.

The handling improvement only means that it's easier to swing your gun around. I removed the initial penalty, so to speak. Guns still get penalties for weight and their handling stat, and you will feel subtle differences as you play around with that reducing weight and adding upgrades, but the differences between different kinds of receivers is minimized, if that makes sense. Honestly, it's something you have to play with to understand. I think it's a massive improvement.

I have also slightly reduced the time to zoom in. Just to make things feel smoother.

TIP: put the AO3 multitool on your F4 quick-slot. Yank that scope off at a moment's notice when you have to. It's convenient.

Hey, thanks for the report. I assume the error comes up when you start a new game? I've tried to reproduce this error, but have been unsuccessful. It's the developer's curse: if I install CotZ 1.2, AO3 0.7 on top of that and my addon on top of that, it just works.

I can tell you that there is no wpn_vz65_5, so the error makes sense. I have no idea where it's getting that _5 from.

So, quiz time!

- Are you installing on top of CotZ 1.2 with AO3?
- What other addons do you have installed?
- Which version of my addon are you trying to install, zoomed or non-zoomed? (it shouldn't matter, but maybe it narrows down the issue)

EDIT:
I am a creepy stalker type dude and glanced at your profile. I noticed you like Project Brutality. Why don't we just skip the foreplay and go straight to Mahzra's Package? ;)

EDIT2: Have you installed any of the AO3 optionals, and if so, which ones? My addon is made for just base AO3, the only optional I tested is the excellent No Sway patch.

I have nimble's legendary arsenal installed.

No other addons and the zoomed version.

It actually crashes when I try to load my game in progress and works fine with a new game?

Install this on top. I patched the affected weapons so you should be able to load your game and have those weapons back all improved and stuff.

I replaced it with a 5.56 Sako TRG in my own game and can't be arsed to fix the grenade launcher. :D

When I do another pass of sight corrections I'll just put my custom Sako in as sort of an easter egg.

After installing this addon, delete wpn_addon_reticle_kobra.dds and wpn_addon_reticle_ekp.dds in gamedata\textures\wpn, and the vintorez versions as well if you have those. That should give you back your three lines sights.

I've noticed that AK ironsights are only aligned on HUD FOV 0.30 (general FOV at suggested 70), but I have to play on 0.40 to see my detector while holding a pistol, though then detector with knife combo is stretched too far away, but it didn't bother me since I'm not using it. Is this like that only for me maybe because of a small 1366x768 display? And why is there such a difference between knife and pistol fov? (and a small suggestion to merge it with this Moddb.com which I've done for myself, though I'm not sure if correctly and it lacks some weapons; and ofc I've experimented with fov on your default files, not my merged ones, just to be clear)

Thanks for the modification! I have some questions: 1) What changes did you make to the original ballistics mod and in this case can your mod be considered a full-fledged transfer of the original ballistics mod to cotz (such as zyzzzyzzlgd47 would have done)? 2) How are you going to edit those weapons that are present in cotz arsenal overhaul but not present in coc arsenal overhaul (such as scar-l 5.56, groza tactical, etc)?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

Mahzra - - 585 comments

Ooh, excellent questions.

1) I merged his changes regarding cam displacement (effectively recoil as the player experiences it) and bullet velocity, armor piercing and impact into my original modification, which changed crosshair inertion, movement inertion, and scope-in times (making guns feel lighter and more mobile) as well as a lot of hud position changes to improve accuracy with attachment scopes. I also reduced damage on buckshot ammo and reduced the hit probability for all weapons except bolt-actions for difficulties below Master as well as provided both zoomed and non-zoomed iron-sights and holo scopes.

So the end result, the merged modifications, cannot be considered a full-fledged mod to cotz as zyzzzyzzlgd47 would have done; it is my take on it, basically. He would have more closely followed reality.

2) Thanks for reminding me about these, I almost forgot. I'm copying their behavior from existing weapons, so these would not be accurate to the other weapons. Another thing a true port would address.

This is also why I didn't just merge the ballistics mod into CoTZ AO3 and uploaded that as vanilla, because it's not my place to do that. CoTZ uses different damage calculations and that should be addressed if and when the mod is properly ported. My merge is my merge and if zyzzzyzzlgd47 wants to provide an "official" port for CoTZ, there is room and demand to do so. I for one would love him to.

Hope not, his is the real deal. The changes I made to the handling make gunplay feel very different from vanilla, so there would still be demand for his original. I'm sure there are plenty of players who do not like the feel of my weapons.

Edit:
Hah, M79 is a grenade launcher, don't have to do that one. :D

I tried using the new version with my save game and it's causing it to crash... I looked into it a little and found some missing sections that "might" be the issue, I'm not sure... here is an example picture of one of the weapons with missing sections (Glock)

Yeah, that would help actually. In your screenshot, my file is on the left? What's the file on the right, the original ballistics mod?

The missing sections shouldn't cause a crash, because they're just skins really.

What could cause a crash is if you had Nimble's Legendary arsenal or another optional addon for AO3 installed. I'd have to merge those in separately. I never bothered to, because those guns are fugly. Pardon my french.

Doesn't look like it's crashing on a weapon file, weird. At least the weapon files should be okay now, so if it's any consolation it works for others.

Could you try to reload that save with the old weapon files, just to make sure that works, and could you try starting a new game with the new files?

If loading with the old files does work and a new game with the new files does work, I'm going to need the old files from your installation. Like, the whole weapons folder in gamedata\config.

There has to be something there I'm overlooking. Something must have changed.

Sorry for the hassle, Wolfy.

If I load the save file with the old weapon files it works every time, only when I install the new version of the mod it crashes. It might be more of a headache than it's worth, because I referenced a few of the fixed files with ExamDiff and it looked good to me.

I removed both "w_rg6.ltx" & "w_rg6 - corrected.ltx" from the mod and used my original "w_rg6.ltx" from the previous version of the mod which is what I had when I made my save games. It still crashes on load. I replaced back all my original files (previous version of the mod) and my save game works fine. I did a new game test using the new files without the updated rg6 files like I mentioned above... and it works. So, something with the updated files isn't compatible with my save game.

What's interesting is I have a little personal mini mod I made for myself that edits the exact same files. It tries to correct some of the weights, and changes the box size so I can transfer a specific amount of ammo at a time. So I have modified these files myself and I know changing values will work with my save game.

A new game for me isn't likely as I have a long running save in this game and probably won't finish it before S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Releases... I will probably still play it after for the classic experience hehe. I'm going to test one more idea I have and I will get back to you...

Alright I did some testing....

Edit: 01-10 Weapon Files - "w_9a91"-"w_ak74u" = Save Game Works

Edit: 11-25 Weapon Files - "w_ak101"-"w_beretta" = Game Crash

Weapon Files 26-51 - "w_bizon"-"w_knife" = Save Game Works

Weapon Files 26-76 - "w_bizon"-"w_remington870" = Save Game Works

Weapon Files 26-END "w_bizon"-"w_wincheaster1300" = Save Game Works

So I have confirmed there is a problem within the 15 mentioned weapon files. My game takes a while to load so I can't do every one individually... but that gives you a good starting point.

Those 15 are like the most boring weapons ever, too. Nothing special about them.

You are so close now! Divide into three batches of 5, hopefully leave just 5 to investigate, don't do it today, do it whenever BUT I MUST KNOW!

I'll make a unique weapon for you out of the one that was causing this problem :D Wouldn't you like an Aug that was named "WolfyBrandon's Headache"? Of course you would!

So you changed those lines back aaaaaand ... ??? :D Or will you just leave those two at v0.9 values? That's probably what I would do.

Changed those two lines, and my save game works with all files (Minus the extra RG6 (haven't tested yet)).

I do not have either weapon equipped, however I am at 100 Rads Bar with 30+ NPC's around who might have one...

Curious, did you change the class for those weapons and does it need to be changed to the new values?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote
Mahzra Author
Mahzra - - 585 comments

No, those class changes came from the ballistics mod. There are a ton of those in these files, so why it's only these two that cause issues I really have no idea. Stalker at its finest.

I'm very glad you got your save game working with the new files though. Hope you enjoy them and that it was worth the effort getting there.

The RG6 (copy) is a RG6. The default is something else. Something you have earned. I think Owl still sells it. There's also one in Limansk in the first building on your right if you enter from Dead City, but I assume you got that one ages ago.

Hah, if you put that one in storage, go have a look at it :D

Yup that's the one. If you rename the RG6 corrected or whatever I called it to rg6.ltx, it'll be a grenade launcher. See, doing that was fine. But call a pistol a LR-300, noooooo can't have that. Stalker is weird.

That rifle is special by the way. Not in an overpowered kind of sense or value or anything, there's just not many like it.

Well I did another test saving my game in Truck Cemetery where there is low NPC population, I changed the files to the updated one and was able to load my save and it worked, however going back to Rostok the game crashed. So yeah the info for an NPC or something must be stored in my save game and it won't let me have the updated class. I will have to play for a while visiting other levels to make sure everything else is working fine.

Is it possible to get both RG6's Sniper & Grenade Launcher?

What weight and ammo box size changes did you make? Could you share those files? I'm always curious about other players' adjustments.

Reply Good karma+1 vote
WolfyBrandon
WolfyBrandon - - 21 comments

I changed the ammo box size because of the way ammo amounts are transferred in-game. I'm very specific on how much ammo I take with me in my loadouts due to the weight, for example I made rifle ammo box size 30, so I can transfer 30 rounds at a time. That way I can calculate how many magazines worth of ammo I have on me at one time. As far as weight, I did a little research and made some minor corrections to ammo and weapon weights (it's very limited, I only modified what I'm currently using in my loadouts). As far as ammo I noticed in the AO mod 9mm weighed more than 45 ACP when 45 ACP is a larger round. So I tried to look up weights and sizes of all calibers and make similar corrections. It's complicated and I doubt I have the exact correct weights for everything, but came up with something I'm happy with over the original settings.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes
Mahzra Author
Mahzra - - 585 comments

I totally get you, I try to take even magazines with me as well. I'll do that weight research as well, that's a good idea, thanks. I figured the AO3 guys would've taken care of that somewhere before the third release.

So, how much does it frustrate you that the game seems to prioritize even amounts of ammo in your storage over even amounts of ammo in your backpack?

It frustrates me a LOT.

Reply Good karma+1 vote
WolfyBrandon
WolfyBrandon - - 21 comments

Same, even with the Ammo Box Size change, sometimes it likes to transfer over a few extra ammo, so if I want like 90 rounds (3 Mags), it might transfer over like 92, or 96 or something... but if I click a bunch of times and transfer like 348 rounds, then transfer back to storage it seems to even out to multiples of 30, so eventually I can get there but it takes some work. Having the box size change helps a lot and does minimize the problem quite a bit. The weight research was a headache, because some sources don't list if the weight is just the bullet itself, the casing, or the whole cartridge. Then you have different types, how much powder for that specific load. I found the best way was to just balance it around actual physical size, shotgun shells being the exception as they are a bit different.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes
Mahzra Author
Mahzra - - 585 comments

Ah, I had a different approach in mind to get at weights for ammo. Check the weight of a box on some US gun store website and divide that weight by the amount of bullets in it. It'll always be guesstimation anyway.

(they're not real, Wolfy. it's just a game. sometimes I worry)

EDIT:

Let's go get flagged on all the watch lists!
