DEBUG'D is a Source mod about unfinished game projects, exploring the buggy worlds within, and saving NPCs from their state of disrepair. You'll even find yourself paired with a cheating little rascal to help you in and out of many unexpected scenarios. Each game found within this mod is a new chapter for you to explore, each within their own unique storyline and quirks. This mod is currently a work-in-progress, and a demo will hopefully come out someday soon.

Explaining where I - and by extension, the mod - have been.

Posted by on

Hello again! Sink here, with another update to DEBUG'D.
As you may have been able to tell, I've been silent on the development of this mod for a while. To put things very short, I've been struggling to do things in my personal life and have also been struggling to find the motivation to continue the mod, but I never fully lost it... and now, I'm motivated as usual again! For now, I'll show off the small progress I've made since last time.

Firstly, some of the vague aspects of the game have finally been more defined - specifically, the NPC Home.
The NPC Home is where all of the NPCs you find go during gameplay. This is where you can check up on them and keep records of your progress. This is saved throughout every game save, so you shouldn't need to worry about losing NPCs if you end up restarting your game. Currently, the system works decently in-game. There is still a lot of work to go into it (particularly in terms of dialogue), but hopefully I'll eventually implement every NPC (and then some) into this rehoming system.

I'd also like to add that I've written so much more solid storyline stuff, but I won't share any of it just yet. It'll be revealed eventually though, just you wait! :D

Secondly, some changes to the game itself.
Many portions that are already implemented in-game have been slightly tweaked and polished further, alongside more fun things inserted between maps. What you've already seen are mostly condensed and very unfinished versions of those maps. I have also made small and likely unnoticeable additions that perhaps you may find once the demo comes out... ;)
This isn't too important for y'all just yet, as nothing is final regardless and there will be so many more developments in the future. I just feel it necessary to note.

Thirdly, the actual progress chapter-wise.
I've already nearly completed the very first and second chapters, and am going to focus on chapters 3 and 4. I've been prototyping some things for every chapter afterwards as well - most of it is concept work, though. However.... I feel it's only fair to show off some of the work I've done, early or not.

And of course, some dev screenshots. (Sorry these look horrible! Again, dev screenshots taken straight from Hammer. Nothing at all is even nearly finished, it just seems fun to share these quick progress shots :D)

I may in fact publish a quick demo if people want that - just chapters 1 and 2 - so that way y'all can have a tiny taste of what's done sometime. Please be sure to follow this page and comment your thoughts if you do wanna see more stuff! :)
