Greeting Scavengers!
The Ashes team is proud to announce that the Ashes series is now available on Mod DB.
Explore and scavenge through dozens of intricate maps, and use your scratched together arsenal to fight hordes of dangerous raiders and mutants in this expansive GZDoom TC. Ashes is part Duke Nukem 3D, part Doom, thrown into a blender with Mad Max, Fallout and Stalker for that refreshing post-apocalyptic twist.
If all of that seems interesting to you, we've thrown together an easy to use stand alone version for your convenience, exclusive to Mod DB. Both episodes are also available as separate downloads.
Why not check it out?
This looks awesome! 🙀
What version of GZdoom is it intended to run with? I think it has something to do with the bug I encountered: my journal never updates, every time there is a notification "Journal updated", it's map on the left and same empty page on the right.
Are you using the standalone release? The gzdoom included is the latest known good build. If running .pk3 separately, check config>full options and look for hud/interface scaling. It just might not be lining up with your native resolution.
No, I'm using the separate pk3 version. I forgot to mention the version of GZdoom I tried to run in with: 4.4.2 (x86), 4.5.0 and 4.6.0 (both x64). Anything newer might be too much for my old pc.
I also tried to do as you told and play with scaling settings and even resolution, but it didn't help.
Nevermind, found the reason.
tl;dr: me and my cheating ***.
All I needed to do was set "sv_unlimited_pickup", works good so far. The thing is, setting "sv_unlimited_pickup" to "1" prevents new journal entries from appear. Even old ones might disappear. Anyway, I seem to be able to both take and complete quests regardless of that. And everything's fine on all aforementioned versions.
On a side note: with sheer amount of space to explore, quests, secrets, non-linear walkthrough and multiple endings it looks like this is the first mod I will need a walkthrough for. Great job!
Pagb666 on YouTube has made videos with timestamps for all the secrets if you need extra cash. As for the story walkthrough for all the endings... Uhhhhh we'll get back to you on that one.
an all-in-one package of one of the best DOOM mods ever made, what's not to love?
Well ain't this a surprise? Can't wait to clear my schedule and give it a go!
I know this is probably a dumb question,
but I can't load videos at the moment, so...
is this intended for mouselook ?
It is, but autoaim is configurable if you prefer not looking up and down too much
Uffff
This should never be mod of the year because It's a game series and it's my favorite one, goty.
Vostyok
Do ye guys have a Patreon or something? I loved this game I would love to show my appreciation by throwing you guys a few pieces of junk :)
We don't yet. Not really. I'm sure Primeval wouldn't mind his soundtrack getting a few more copies sold though XD.
For most of us it's just a hobby for now.
Vostyok, maybe you dont have the time for this or its rude of me to ask this, but what graphical settings do you have on? since I can never replicate how the game looks in your images or videos.
How to run the Dead Man Walking expansion?
this one had a full release?
well I know what I'm doing for the next few days
This Game is absolutely amazing! It kickstated my interest in Total Conversions and mods in the first place. Really hope you keep making games like this!
Is it possible to use any kind of gore mod with the standalone package?
Thanks. Yes you should be able to use gore mods with the standalone. Just add a path to the mod in the episode .bat files.
I wish there was a bestiary of some kind. Would love to know the name of those spooky, black shadow monsters.
We've added basic descriptions to the Doom Wiki entries for Ashes 2063 and Afterglow. For reference, they are known as Haunts, but nothing about their origin or nature has been revealed... Yet.

*cleans the dust of this place* Dusty dusty dusty....
You guys absolutely need to set up a way for people to give you money, Afterglow is fantastic and I'm really sad I can't pay you for it. Maybe a Steam release?
