Post tutorial Report RSS Installing SerenityJediEngine

This tutorial will show you how to Install SerenityJediEngine on normal Windows version and Steam version.

Installation-
-------------
<<>>
Seriously, this is the cause of 99% of all issues with this mod. I tested this mod on a fresh installation and it worked perfectly.
Also I only support english versions of the game. This should work with other versions of the game but might require some tweaking.

REQUIRED- You must have a fresh vanilla install of Jedi Acadmey and Jedi Outcast. If you can't figure out a way to get them, I recommend purchasing them off Steam. I HIGHLY recommend you apply all official patches to Outcast and Academy BEFORE you try to mod them. This mod has only been tested on fully patched installations, I don't fully support applying it to older or cracked versions of these games. It should work, but might introduce new bugs.
Step 1- Rename Jedi Outcast's assets in the GameData\base folder to something like 0_assets0.pk3, 0_assets1.pk3 and etc.
Step 2 - copy all of Jedi Outcast's assets(#).pk3 files to Academy's base folder.
*REMEMBER- Academy loads assets alphabetically, make sure it loads Outcasts file BEFORE Academy's.
===============
=======
In your base folder you should have no extra asset pk3 files with other mods (this can cause crashes).
only :
assets0
assets1
assets2
assets3 From Jedi Academy.

optional assets from Jedi outcast should be renamed to
0-assets0
0-assets1
0-assets2
0-assets3

Any extra model or map pk3 files should also be renamed to 0-(pk3 name)
this means you add "0-" before the pk3 name ,this will ensure no essential files are overwritten to prevent crashes and increase stability.

C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy\GameData this is the default location.

Steam Version
==============
Same as the normal windows version, but you'll need to navigate to
C:/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/Jedi Academy/GameData (in your Steam folder).
To run it, right click on Jedi Academy in your game library, and select "Set Launch Options" in the General tabAdd +set fs_game "Start-SerenityJediEngine2018-SP" or"Start-SerenityJediEngine2018-MP" to it, and it will run SerenityJediEngine2018 whenever you start Jedi Academy. Note: If you play other mods or base, you will need to remove +set fs_game "Start-SerenityJediEngine2018-SP" whenever you want to play that mod, then add +set fs_game "SerenityJediEngine2018" whenever you want to play SerenityJediEngine2018.

Final note
=========
SerenityJediEngine2018 is a jedi academy total conversion singleplayer and multyplayer and requires the latest Jedi academy update to run and also requires jedi outcast installed with the jedi outcast latest update to run
the latest updates for Academy and Outcast can be found here.

This explanation is quite confusing. I've been modding games for years and the instructions for this mod or maybe the way it's worded make it quite frustrating to wrap my head around it. Am I the only one?!?

Also instead of 0123 for outcast I have 0125? Should I rename 5 to 3?

So after reading your Readme I take it I don't need assets5. Also an observation from what you say in your Readme even asking questions wouldn't get an answer because you take things personally. Or most likely you wrote that after being fed up with dealing with pompous a$$hats trying to tell you what is and isn't right concerning something you've created and have spent a ton of time on.

It's incredibly confusing, no matter what i do i cannot get this working. I've just given up. So damn sad. And creator just doesn't care. I am just some idiot who doesn't deserve help to Jace :(

Also I have a question about default controls. I see that a lot of them have Joystick buttons assigned. Is that normal? Because jump is assigned to a Joystick button and not space. Kind of weird.

That's cause you have a gamepad connected to the pc in the very momment of starting the game.

Hey man, I really appreciate you taking the time to do this mod and deal with everybody's issues. I'm having trouble getting it installed and running. I extracted the download files to the JediAcademy/GameData folder, renamed Outcast's asset files with "0-" and moved em over to the 'base' folder also in JediAcademy/GameData, and have triple-checked the "+fs_game" command in Launch Options. Every time I then launch the game using steam, it loads normally for about 6-8 seconds, and then starts to glitch and lag for about 1-2 seconds, and finally completely freezes thereafter. Any guesses at what I'm porking away? For what it's worth, I haven't seen any "Start-SerenityJediEngine2018-SP.bat" files, only the ones with .86x, which you mentioned in another comment chain as possibly being an issue. Do I need to manually rename those files to ".bat"?

Seriously, what did you do? I am still having this issue. Followed the install instructions over and over again and nothing works, steam version still doesn't launch serenity either. The steam launch command just makes a new folder

Hi, I don't have an assets3.pk3 in my Outcast gamedata, but I do have an assets5.pk3. Am I supposed to copy this one over as well?

Thanks.

I think I may have misunderstood something. I've got the steam games. I took the .pk3 files from outcast, relabeled them, and put them into the academy folder. I took the string "+set fs_game "Start-SerenityJediEngine2018-SP" " and copied it into the launch options. The game runs as if I didn't change anything. What am I doing wrong?

Also having this exact issue with the 2020 edition. This has different instructions to the readme and it's all very confusing

I wish there was just one single set of install instructions, because each one i check, including the readme, has different instructions and no matter which one I follow, the serenity engine runs for like 10 seconds and then crashes every time
