1. Install the game just like you would; the original then the expansion, and then patch the game.
2. Try launching the game. If it doesn't launch (assuming your screen flickers a few times before crashing/closing), then create "options.ini" in your "Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data". Edit the file using notepad, and then place the code below into it, and save:
AntiAliasing = 1
BuildingOcclusion = yes
CampaignDifficulty = 0
DynamicLOD = yes
ExtraAnimations = yes
GameSpyIPAddress = 0.0.0.0
Gamma = 50
HeatEffects = yes
IPAddress = 0.0.0.0
IdealStaticGameLOD = Low
LanguageFilter = false
MaxParticleCount = 5000
MusicVolume = 55
Resolution = 1366 768
Retaliation = yes
SFX3DVolume = 79
SFXVolume = 71
ScrollFactor = 60
SendDelay = no
ShowSoftWaterEdge = yes
ShowTrees = yes
StaticGameLOD = Custom
TextureReduction = 0
UseAlternateMouse = yes
UseCloudMap = yes
UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no
UseLightMap = yes
UseShadowDecals = yes
UseShadowVolumes = yes
VoiceVolume = 70
3. Right click to properties on your "generals.exe". Go to compatibility, set "Compatibility Mode" to "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" and check "Run this program as an administrator", then "OK". Your unmodded game should work properly by now.
4. Assuming you're continuing to install this mod, just install it by going through the instructions packed with the download, or by watching Youtube.com
***ENB will not work unless "Compatibility Mode" is unset. However, by doing that, you will not be able to play on fullscreen. The game will simply crash (at least on my laptop.)***
5. Make sure you set the settings on the mod launcher first BEFORE launching the mod.
6. ???
7. Profit.
(updated: 24/1/2020)
ORIGIN VERSION (MANUAL):
You can try manually launch the mod by changing the extension of the following files from .enh to .big:
!!Enh0HD.enh
!!Enh001Patch.enh
!!Enh01Patch.enh
!!EnhBlom2.enh
!!EnhGrss.enh
!!EnhRefl.enh
!0EnhArt.enh
!0EnhData.enh
!0EnhMaps.enh
!0EnhShaders.enh
!0EnhWindow.enh
* d3d8.enh to d3d8.dll
And then start the game the way you do normally without any other 3rd party plugins
Does this count for any previous versions and such?
This should work universally if you experience the same as me.
Alright thanks

Its really a shame as this was one of my most loved games yet I cant even get it to work fro windows 10, :( I have tried everything the game will just not launch, no error message nothing, even the disk wont start up unless I tell it.
Tried cracked .exe?
sir i followed all rules above but still its not working on my windwows 10
It's not just this game sadly, the reason why I've gone back to 7! I have too many older games that wouldn't work. Crack does work though I think seem to remember
ho do you install for the cd version?
Hi, seems like a great mod. i have successfully installed and launched on Win 10, however when i select single player, all options are 'greyed' out except skirmish!?

ok everyone basically for the Command and Conquer Generals base vanilla game follow the instructions as mentioned with Admin privilige in the document file(assuming you got the file from a google.mediafire something site)and do the steps....
you will get the crash,but that is because you did not go into the file directory and right clik the exe and go to properties and select xp service pack 2 and run as admin....it worked for me
that is the first one....
I did exactly what the top instructions said to do and the game won't run. What now?
repeat steps for second installation if your doing cracked copy...from this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5bBkx7pFLo
it is pretty simple and I got the first one to work correctly...then i went to install the second one the same all with admin privilges....
the zero hour works...exactly like he said above with the creation of the options.ini file...

thank you so much VectorlV, very appreciated.
for those who are suffering from the "error occured......." issue, just follow the instruction mentioned by vectorlV, the game will work perfectly.
Thanks again

ha your second solution works!
need an updated tutorial for the origin versions
I am on Windows 8.1 professional edition. I have the expanded edition of Generals. It worked when I was using Windows 7 but now it won't run on Windows 8. I tried doing what you suggested (creating an .ini and placing it in the Generals data folder in Documents) but it didn't do ****. The game won't even attempt to run. No disc spin. Nothing.

I have Generals ZH on the EA App. My original game works fine, but every time I try to install the mod, the launcher just keep opening the original unmodded game. Tryed to download the installer version, non-installer version, added the newest patch and the mod still doesn't open. Any solutions for this?
