Holy Cow - this is awesome!
Bought my copy last Tuesday, finished the game at 2 AM tonight.
I also ran into some glitches, that got better with the patch, but not totally ironed out. Also the voice over recordings sound like someone with a slit throat is breathing his last words into a broken cell phone.
On the sunny side of life, this is a masterpiece of trash and fun and laughter - I NEVER had so much FUN wit ha compter game. Allright, you need some background knowledge, a decent education and intelligence to get the jokes, but if you do, this is hillarious!
I played it rather as an adventure, and the puzzles were sometimes really challenging. The shootouts, especially with the watchers, were tough. i also had some really scary moments, but in the end it was a funny ride of b-movie comedy all along and in this sense the most creative and unique game I played this year.
The Game was Beautiful, I felt compleately immersed in the small world.
Strangly it reminded me of Myst, that old point and Click game, although not as serious obviously, it was still enough for me.
For me it reminds me that games do not have to feel like games.
This felt like I was inside a peice of Art.
Never have I ever been absorbed into something like this.
When I closed my eyes, I thought I was their for a moment, I useually don't admit things like this but tears were forming in my eyes.
A perfect 10 from me.
Why do I give a perfect score to this mod? Simple; It is the only mod that contains unused data/beta files from C&C Generals and Zero Hour, I like the Maps also. And Comrade Abra, good thing you decided to put the Type 98 tank to the Chinese tank general. Because that's my proposed plan to do that and thank goodness, you finally did it. I'm proud of you.
Frustration was on the high for the mod. Just because you know what's what doesn't mean the players knows. This mod had a good idea and I love you're thinking outside the box on it but the monster was scary at first but then became annoying. I wanted to explore outside but that was tarnished by freezing up. Those oil barrels should be able to be lit up to stay warm. The environment was good though with an interesting location but the level design was too boxy in design hidden by dark lighting. GG feels like it could of been worked on longer...
the best GAME, ever, don't get fooled by upcoming imitations, this is the true experience. Fear to be played, very hard to survive, and deal with real people's will to make everything possible to let them and/or their group to survive.
Learn to drink, eat, and get weapons to survive in the wilderness. Oh yeah, there's also A LOT of zombies that are hunting you ...
brace yourself, this is no game for sissies
Not so much a game as a survival horror experience. To me it felt like the gameplay was simply a tool you use to experience the..I'm not sure what to call this, I'm reluctant to say art. The experience however was gripping and I'm glad I gave this a go.
At the end of the day it's free, so you've not got much to lose from trying it out. It can be a short experience but the ambient sounds and monochromatic film grain visuals come together really well.
Day Z is one of the most well known and ambitious mods to ever come out. Ironically it did so by abandoning lots of substance, and just dropping players into a Zombie-infected Chernarus with nothing to do but survive. Everything else is up to the player.
It's an interesting concept, and over time they expanded on survival elements quite a bit, but at least the last time I played, there wasn't enough teamwork emphasis. Custom Bandit skins were removed so people could kill others with no penalty, and they'd blend in perfectly. This plus the reduction of the amount of Zombies turned Day Z into Zombie Deathmatch.
