RO2 is a really nice update to RO Ostfront. Sadly, upon its release it was a disaster. Although this did and does not bug me this game is not as great as its predecessor. The game isn't quite as harsh as I would have liked. Some things have been simplified in an attempt to appeal to a wider audience. For instance, all bolt action rifles have automatic bolting by default. This left me fairly disgruntled. For a while there weren't as many maps as I would have liked and it took a while for community ones to be integrated. All in all though the game is solid, and the updated visuals are nice.
Difficult only because of the 'traps' the game employs and not because of skillfully designed levels, enemies or bosses or anything like that. Basically, the game's one selling point are the afformentioned 'traps': totally invisible, unpredictable and unfair things which will kill you dozens of times. Then, after you've been killed you get sent some way back into the level to have another try.
Well, I'm not too sure that I would class that as a game, more a memory test than any test of skill or judgement.
Frustatingly difficult for all the wrong reasons.
This mod is not only a technical achievement, by pushing the BF2 engine to the very limit of it's capabilities, but also an immersive and often breathtaking experience. The amount of work put into this can very easily be seen when you play this game. For seven years the PR Team have been hard at work fixing, tweaking and perfecting what some people consider today as the ultimate Battlefield 2 experience, I would go so far as calling it the ultimate Battlefield experience. Some may argue that even with the added game manual and numerous tutorials that can be found all over the internet, the game is impossible to understand which makes it unenjoyable. The answer to that is to take the time to read the manual, look at the videos you can find on Youtube for example and if all else fails ask for some help from the PR community which is one of the best and friendliest game communities I have ever had to pleasure to be a part of. It is worth going through this learning curve, which can be seen as steep for some, for you get to experience one of the most satisfying and enjoyable team based shooter that has ever existed. That is why for me this mod deserves a 10/10 because it's pros EASILY outweigh it's minor cons.
I've been looking for a really good survival game, zombies just make a convenient enemy and I have not issues with that. I like the graphical style and that fact that every little thing affects you. When I first played the campaign it was actually very touching and sad how I would always fail miserably.
A couple issues I have with the game is combat, pacing, and a few other minor things. I understand having to stand still to be accurate but having to stand still to attack at all is a little weird. I might just be doing it wrong but I did not find a way to attack without standing still first and "priming" your weapon.
With regards to pacing, I feel that days should be longer. I often times find myself in the pitch dark after only walking around for maybe 5 minutes real time. A day-night cycle should probably be about an hour or so.
My other minor things will probably all be ironed out as the game progresses.
