When ModDB begun in 2002, total conversions were huge. Counter-Strike, Project Reality, Nehrim. The kind of mods we have in our hall of fame: Modhof.com

Whilst these mods still make up the majority of our site and we love em, it seems most gamers are playing cosmetic mods, the kind ushered in with the TF2 Hat craze. So that we can adapt and provide the best site possible to developers and gamers, we want to know what you play and enjoy so we can adjust accordingly. Interested to hear your thoughts!

I picked Graphical enhancements / fixes because I often use those in order to improve game's immersion. I'm freelancer level designer so graphics/shading/image quality is very important to. Sometimes I get games only to explore environments and by this way I learn how they were made/how objects were placed etc.
I shall mention project reality for BF2. It was one of recent total conversion mods which I really enjoyed. However, by picking total conversation one, you might not update it itself very much so I more prefer to build your own setup of other little mods or even make your ones ! ;)

Hello there. I mainly play Men of War (2007 edition). I spend time making maps and using the Entities full animation potential, but I have a little problem. I haven't been able to figure out how to make the barrier3 lower slowly. It just doesn't seem to work, no matter which ways I tried. Can you please give me a hint on where I should seek to find out how this animation can be tweaked? Your help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You'd need to ask the mod creators. I'm afraid I don't know.

"all of the above", add this, this is what i do depending on what game i play.
SWBF2 - maps & graphic;
C&C series (or any rts games) - total conversion;
Skyrim - everything, until i crashed the game;
counter strike - maps, and cosmetics so my game would look pretty;
and the list goes on...

For me minor moding like new textures, more weapons, brighter maps or cooler looking npc's... installing them separetely is stupid, the developers made the game look how it should be, no anime characters that don't fit, no bigger boobs mod, no final fantasy chatacters or weapons or a Train as a dragon...i'm looking at ur skyrim. Personally i like mods that make a game you played into a new or diffrent adventure like underhell a half life 2 game that u probably completed 4-5 times but a mod brings whole new experience and whole diffrent adventure.

Really depends on a game. On some games i prefer playing total conversion, on some other i prefer cosmetic, on some other graphical mods..Really depends.

Depends on the game. Some games are nearly perfect right out of the box (like The Witcher 3) and might just require a few graphics mods every so often to keep them updated while other games are much more of an game engine than an game and only really shine with some amazing TC mods. (like Mount and Blade Warband or Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion)

Although for mods I continually play I think it would have to be TC mods. Like Star Wars Conquest, Mass Effect Dawn of the Reapers, Third Age Total War with Divide and Conquest, etc.

I mainly played and still play Total Conversions. For example Total Annihilation Zero for TA. I frequently upload TA Zero gameplay videos on my Youtube channel: Youtube.com

I use a bit of everything lol. My Skyrim has 180+ mods of all kinds, bugfixes, graphical mods, adult mods, I had even 2 "data" folders - one for Requiem and other for SkyRe. I play Soase R and I love total conversions for it, like those which bring star trek universe into Rebellion. So my favourite mods are bugfixes and total conversions, but everything else is cool too! :)

I always try to remake Half-Life, it will be my mod“New-life”,based on Arrangement mod, change map, models, graphics, physics, some chapters, story lines, etc. Maybe after
that I will remake the Opposing-Force and Blue-Shift. Now, I'm working for that hard.
Half-Life is my favorite game. Still love it.

Total Conversions are still really well-placed in my heart for modding. There's just something amazing about seeing a game I love become into something completely different that I'll also love.

Also speaking of site enhancements, I have a couple things I'd like to push for:

1. More than one video shown on a mod or group or profile's front page at a time, just like images.
2. 10 to 15 minute grace period for editing comments, up from 5.
3. Maybe some visual update.
4. Mods section on Profiles, like images, that show off what mods a group, person, or developer have added to the site.
4a. Same thing for Games, Addons, and Downloads.
5. If a person or group have a job posting, make it show on the front page of their profile and games or mods they have. Probably as a little box off to the side.

That's all the ideas I got for now.

I was thinking between "Total conversions" and "Graphical enhancements / fixes" for a while, but eventually I choose "Graphical enhancements / fixes" because newer models, better textures, bug fixes that have never been fixed by the devs them self, which make the game run smoother and balanced, is more fun to play, then a mod that just expend its storyline. Yeah a Total Conv is doing the same, but what do you have more a better looking and smoother gameplay or a better looking mod with a few extra storyline twists which still have the original bugs in it ?

Its kind of hard to compare art and bug fixes to total conversions. Its like comparing 2d and 3d art which do i prefer. Out of context i don't have a preference, it's the quality of the mod itself that decides whether I'm interested.

No option Large Scale mods/Expansion mods that add large amounts of content while keeping the original ideas of the game?

Other a.k.a all of them! When it comes to mods I'm mostly interested in enhancing my SINGLE player experience so it's a tie between adding new content (maps/missions or entire campaigns)and giving my favorite nostalgic games a facelift (graphically and cosmetically). That being said I also like it when annoying aspects of gameplay are fixed or removed completely so I can focus on the good stuff. The ones I dislike the most are the nudity mods (guys, it's easier to just watch porn/hentai of these games :D )

I play all kinds of mods, including total conversions, additional maps, graphic overhauls, and whatever else, although I would have to say total conversions which don't heavily alter the story are usually what I install (Stuff like GMDX, Autumn Aurora 2, and Brutal Doom).

Usually I'm trying to find mods that revamp combat, so whether or not that falls under minor gameplay changes or a total overhaul is usually up to however much stuff other than combat the mod changes.
