Other is missing, but if other, what do you use and why.
Also missing none. Fool!
SPARK! if it's indie...
I would add the option "self-made" or "custom engine" like ModDB classifies them. I'm pretty sure a lot use something self build even if it's only a simple engine for a small project.
I never head of Ogre and Torque before. Seems like these polls also learns you some stuff you did not know about before!
For the projects that i am on we use a custom modified quake so i chose Darkplaces as its the closest option and because darkplaces is a ice engine.
I tried commenting on here twice before, but let's see if it's working now...
Ogre isn't exactly an engine, it's a renderer - although it is fairly popular as a basis, alongside a physics engine with a number of indies. Another obvious, and surprisingly missing choice is Irrlicht.
I'm not quite sure why you'd list 'DarkPlaces', when it's a Quake derivative, but not iD Tech itself, which is just as, if not more popular than DarkPlaces, and has a large number of equally popular derivations.
In any case, I'm a UDKer, purely down to having worked with Unreal 3 for a few years already.
Yeah i know shee, its a renderer but its so popular i needed to add it, irrlicht doesn't seem to be to active anymore, and i only wanted to list 10 so it didn't make the cut :(
I dont class the udk as indie as it was made by a big studio, but leaving it off wouldn't have worked as its used by indie devs.
Dark places basically covers any quake derivatives as you mentioned its also very popular and well know so its there, rest are just common indie engines and i thought it would make for a interesting poll.
i use the darkplaces engine people underestimate engines like it.
i think he used it because its developed in a own direction and it got some mayor improvements compared to id tech 1-3
Since there is no other I voted none. Anyway, I use Construct.
None.
Vote for GameMaker, because this is most simplest engine for creating games without coding...
And now i developing game in NeoAxis Engine - it's cool too!!!
erm...where is Source engine in pool?
Source is hardly an indie engine, since the licensing fees are well outside the range of your average indie developer.
Not much Torque love. :(
C4 is by far the best engine out there.
Just started playing around with the UDK, it's incredibly intuitive, and runs nicely on my mac, too!
****, it runs on MAC but no Linux =(
To be fair I am running it under a virtual machine. I don't know enough about Linux to say whether or not you could to the same.
Torque Game Engine Advanced for me.
Game Maker! It's fun and REALLY easy to use!
I don't have the PC for making much...
I code my own! Muhahahahahahahahaha!
I'm going to try and get into Unity, but I need to learn the coding first. I'd rather use UDK, but it just seems to complicated for me.
I use Cryengine 2 but thats not indie.
Why isn't my engine in there? (Valkyrie) No one uses it now... but one day you'll see, you will all see!
The list would be long if haveing all engine's, even those that is not so, (now) known.
:)
Renegade X is on UT3 right now, but it will be on the UDK soon!
since when is UDK considered an Indie engine? Free=/=Indie I'm pretty sure.
Also, where's my Panda 3D? D:
(I use Source, but I've poked panda)
Cos the udk can be used to make stand alone games, so indie devs can use it, see my top comment regarding it being selected.
Then you would also have to put Source and CryEngine and all the other AAA engines since they can be used too by indies... granted they have deep enough pockets. So either UDK goes of the list or all other AAA engines go on the list too... or you change the UDK entry into "AAA engines", then it would make sense again.
Dragon, I think the point of UDK is that its actually free for development and cheap for distribution unlike other AAA engines... Its affordable for indie developing, whereas the others expensive to licence, so UDK deserves its spot there IMO
It's still not an "indie engine" as the poll does state, it's an "aaa engine", that's the point.
Source SDK!
No Neoaxis? I voted Ogre :P
allegro because im a newb :)
I dont use Indie engine, I work with the Source Engine
Ive found something easier, and more fun to use then any of those! And thats what ive been using ever since i found it!
I'll say other for the fact that we use Unity, UDK, and C4
C4 all the way.
No one for Shiva ?
Oooh please...
Voted, other, and that's Shiva.
None?
Source Engine
