Im going to guess the closed source and middleware people are going to battle it out, now watch me be proved wrong :D
Wow, Unity is definitely shaping the Indie game industry. Goes to show what happens when you don't owe a company a huge cut of your profit (except for console of course).
Please bare in mind the engines listed are examples of the style of engine and arnt there as the only option, if you use s2 Engine that would be middleware also, even away3d.
To me, Source was the gate that opened the world of game modding to me, and later, the world of indie games, and that's thanks to Moddb.
I mostly make maps for GoldSource Engine based games (no Xash3D or Trinity), but I also make maps for Source Games such as CS:S and CS:GO, and a bit (still learning) of UDK such as UT2k4 and UT3.
And I'm going to learn a bit of Unity.
In waiting for Source 2, of course! :D
UDK, Unity, S2, Ethanon.
So Middleware mostly.
I dont have good PC, but i use DarkPlaces. It's my Fav forever. I wont replace it for even Cry Engine.
Quake and Doom!!!
