Results were pretty good in my opinion, I really didn't think there were that many BF2 modders/fans hanging around here so congrats to them. Bf2, difficult/time consuming to mod from what I have tried.

Thought the editors choice selections and quotes were spot on too.

I was surprised that a BF2 mod could win over much more innovative creations.

I don't mean to downplay the hard work that all the winning teams put in, but in my opinion modding has moved past the stage of "let's add some new weapons/maps/vehicles". You just have to look at some of the fantastic work that people are doing on the source engine, they're practically writing entire games. That said, I haven't played the top 2 mods, so I can only talk from experience from the BF1942 days. If things have changed since then, please correct me.

This is, after all, the popularity contest. The largest active fan base will win out in the end, not the best mod. But it's all subjective anyway. I look forward to seeing the Editor's Choices for a more accurate picture.

PoE2 is great for its models and skin, large open maps and good sounds.

But I am sorry, gameplay sucks :(

Actually, this is nearly the same gameplay as BF2 (and it is on of the reason I am very surprised to see that they win a modification challenge) with more problems, resume by : airplane eats heli eats tanks eats infantry.

PoE2 deserse a price for their hard works on textures and models, but clearly not the "best of the year" award.

Thanks to those that have taken the time to play our mod (POE:1 & POE:2). Being the Project Leader of the team I can say I'm very proud of the accomplishment that the people on our team have earned. For those that don't have any modding experience in the Battlefield arena you would be surprised how hard it is to manipulate things due to Dice / EA hard coding things and not taking the time to provide useful editing tools. I'm very proud that our mod was considered (and Project Reality and Forgotten Hope) for awards as we represent our community - the Battlefield community. The group has pushed both the Vietnam and BF:2 engines to their limits and have done things to fix things that Dice/EA passed on when it came to bug fixing and improvements and we did provide a full conversion mod to the community to enjoy. Of course not all people will enjoy what we develop as everyone has their own idea on what they like when it comes to gaming. The group works hard to make compromises so that the majority of the community would have something that they enjoyed when playing the mod. We have always been a modern warfare game and when Dice decided to release BF:2 we had to change our story to be different than what was being provided in the original game - as POE:1 and BF:2 are very similar in nature. Personally, I work in a corporate world for my day to day job and understand why Dice and EA made decisions to release their games in a quick fashion - as they are competing against other publishers that are trying to release great games and it comes down to who can keep the public interested with buying their products. Unfortunately these decisions has made it very difficult for the mod groups in the Battlefield community to be competitive. Our mod team consists of modelers, skinners, coders, tool coders, sound engineers, music composers, multimedia specialists and they have touched every aspect of the engine that is possible - so for those ney sayers that believe that one group of modders in the community are better than another group (source vs bf or others) you might want to take some time and stand in their shoes. For POE:2, we released a full conversion that the majority of the content was developed by the team from statics (buildings, grass, trees), models, skins, scripting, coding, sounds, music, and all original levels - which BF:2 levels were not converted and not usable in the original release!

For our fans - of course the award wouldn't have been possible without your votes. Our news posts do get covered in over 10 languages world wide and over 20+ countries and appreciate all of the support that has been shown - and thanks to Moddb..com for promoting all types of games from different game engines! It's all about creating games for the gaming community and having people play what is developed! We also appreciate the support of our sponsors Hypernia & Pocketsoft for taking care of our technology needs so that we can have the ability to develop the mods and future developments. Game On! Congratulations to all teams that were considered for awards this year.

Well it was certainly a fun lead up and the entire thing was done with great presentation. Really made me think that keeping the FPS mods away from everything else in these awards might have made the end product a little more enjoyable, what with 9 out of 10 top awards going to FPSs. Oh well, excellent work ModDB and congratulations to all the winners and nominees!

As great as I am sure those BF2 mods are, I agree with Broccoli. Against so many truly original and unique titles, I don't understand how they won.

I also don't get his whole hatred of the Source engine thing. Source engine mods are successful because they are often innovative, and the Source engine is a (relatively) flexable engine.

It is the mods themselves we are judging, not which engine they are on, so quit with all the preduce and needless aversion of Source engine mods

It's not the aversion of Source mods which gets 2 BF2 mods in the MOTY awards. It's popularity. Everything is dictacted on popularity - not how good you are, but how good you are at telling everyone how good you are. Good media releases = good popularity. That's not to say the winning mods aren't top quality, they are - in terms of graphical quality. This isn't a slight to the winning mod teams, only a little rant about democracy. Anyway this is what the EC is for.

i'm furious paranoia (for HL1) didn't even register with this event- not even as an anticipated mod. have any of you seen their screenshots lately? it's almost impossible to believe that's half-life 1. AoM was great but it had some serious flaws that i think should have kept it from the running- though the director's cut may make it truly MOTY worthy.

for that matter, i must be the only person who was disappointed with KF2, and even more so with the mod leader's behaviour when recieving criticism.

however a lot of the mods here were good picks. hidden is great, so is minerva. dystopia is wonderful, and of course black mesa is going to own life when it finally comes out. i'm also looking very forward to insurgency.

paranoia looks great.

I really think that mods worthy of MODY should add something to gameplay, otherwise you might as well just add skins and a map pack to your current favorite game.

I am not one to complain about much at all.... but a BF2 mod getting mod of the year, when I have only seen a couple of shots and news from these guys, but did grab the HUGE and a waste of time downloads. It is not an original mod, but just a small and average add-on of the original game. What was it, a couple of weapons? a civilian car? Please.. from what I have seen of the comments on this thread, who voted for them? I really hope that a time snapshot of all of the votes and IP address were taken, as most know, if you disconnect your router and connect it again, you get a new IP... I am not accusing anyone of cheating, and no, I do not believe the mod I run should have been even a contender.. I am talking about all of the extremely well done, innovative and brilliant mods that have been released and in the works for HL2 and 1, (too numberous to mention) also ones for the quake 3 engine.. brilliant.. but the POO1 and POO 2 are crap and poorly done so please don't blather on about how fantastic you guys are.... I would like to ask those who sat up for a couple of days rotating their IP address to step forward and confess to this travesty..

Next time ModDB guys, please take the votes ONLY by registered accounts, name and details etc ONCE.. so there is no way people can cheat..

I expected more of the winner... And the whole competition was more-less about FPS mods. More categories and winner for each of them plus the global winner(s) would be the way to go I think. I gotta positive feeling about the next MOTY, though.

Fact is that fps is one of the most popular genres so naturally it would be in the majority, it is in the shops so why not on moddb? Personnally I don't really play many other games apart from fps but it does seem ashame that other mods don't get the attention they deserve because they aren't fps

Point of existence has lots of promise, i don't see why some of you are complaining. I've never even heard of those Half life mods before, but they looked alright probably average, but how would i know, i don't even own it lol.

I was hoping Halogen would have made it to MOTY, but that can't happen. The Reborn Team and Path Beyond team should get some sort of award like DebilZ stated, they really have put in A LOT of effort.

All in all it was a very.... interesting MOTY.

While I will admit I had expected a Half-Life 2 modification to win<

Point of Existence did deserve its share of fame. I feel its a much more appropriate take on the BF2 engine than BF2 itself.
The modders clearly outdid EA in terms of Level design, some of the levels are pure beauty compared to anything EA has done.

Its unfortunate most of you are bashing this. I also HATE EA and their lack of support for the modding community<<
But I guess over-coming this obstacle shows that the P.O.E. creators had much ambition and integrity.

Gj Guys<< Keep up the good work- Look forward to future projects.

This was my first moddb awards on here and I felt the wait wasn't even worth the result. What, about 6 pages of text, some awards and ****** mod winning MOTY. With this being my first moddb awards I really hope that this wasn't even close to the best awards that I'll see on this site. The thing that really ****** me off was that POE 2 won over so many other mods that are much better and creative.

I think PoE2 deserved it because it actually runs well and has few or no bugs at all. And it's full of features.

CaptainSource- You shouldn't accuse mods of cheating simply because you obviously hate BF2. They have the largest following of any BF2 mod. Its also obvious that you haven't played, or you would know that its a total conversion.
