April '07

This month in modding...

With the exception of April Fools Day - there is nothing much too exciting that happens in the month of April. For people in the northern hemisphere cold days are replaced with sort-of cold days, and in the southern hemisphere warm days are replaced with cold ones. Fortunately the indie game development scene keeps on working away, so we have quite a few solid mod and game releases to highlight this month.

First off the bat (and this months must-play mod) is Zombie Master. The name may be dull and may sound like the 50,000 other Zombie Mods that have come before it - but this one actually works, and applies some innovative gameplay ideas that everyone seems to enjoy. Another mod which was released to much fanfare was Eve of Destruction 2 a total conversion for BF2. Then of course there is the token DBZ mod DragonBall: Source who immediately gained 1,000's of fans despite this release being a super early 6-month beta preview (just how many people watch this show!?). Several more mods were released, with some of the more notable new ones including: Revolt The Decimation for HL2, Wiimote Mod for HL2, Realism Mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Zombie Horde for CSS and Combat Revolution for Company of Heroes.

Mod DB would also like to welcome two new sponsors on board - The Art Institute and Tournament.com.

AIO

Mod DB has partnered up with The Art Institute Online to bring you tutorials and information which help you design and build your own custom game content. With their support and syndicated data we aim to fill out our tutorial section with relevant great information. They have tons of experience and offer several online Game Art & Design courses which are aimed at artists looking to take that first step toward becoming a designer in the multi-billion dollar game design industry. So keep an eye out for more information.

Tournament.com

Finally, thanks to Tournament.com we have launched an exciting Ultimate Tournament Player model making competition with some neat prizes up for grabs. The aim is simple and creativity / fun is encouraged - we dare all player modelers to create the meanest, smartest, toughest character possible be it: human, hybrid, mechanical, alien or animal -- worthy of competing in a tournament battle to the end. Anyhow that's it for another month. Thanks for reading!
