As part of our Kickstarter project, we've released a playable version of the game for free to the internet. We are aware that our game is a relatively premium product and quite a few people are interested in it, but up until now they've had no way of testing the game to see if they like it before putting their money down. Well, now you can!
The demo is the latest development build of the game. It is still an alpha and has a fair bit of work left to do on it, but it is certainly playable and should give you a good idea of whether you like the game or not. It contains a Quick Battle mode that allows the player to play a relatively tough mission, and a Full mode that contains about the first 1/4 of the game, allowing the player to research laser weapons and the first manufacturable armour. Obviously the final game will have lots more content - this is just a taster!
You can find the build on the Kickstarter page here: Kickstarter.com
Give it a play. If you enjoy it, consider pledging to back the game on Kickstarter or buying it here on Desura!
Love your GUI ideas on the kickstarter page, really hope people will back this!
I just hate to fall back on Internet memes but...
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Far better than expected.
I'm one of those people who barely can judge a game by it's screens or articles.
But the demo hit a sweet spot. I really love the overall tone and direction of the game so far.
The GUI is quite nice and artistically totally works.
The Maps and Sprites are well done. The demo surely left me hungry for more.
Consider this Backed!
The demo was very good I am thinking about buying it.
You guys do know that its on Desura right?.... lol if you're just buying the game please go through Desura, that way it helps ModDB. (cause you know.. no one likes giving money to Amazon lol).
I've already purchased the alpha, supporting their kickstarter seems redundant. Sorry to be callous but I thought they were doing well enough to not need a kickstarter at all in the first place.
Well the kickstarter page has some pretty clear goals, if you check the parts about GUI, Medals, Suppression fire mechanics, etc.
These are things the team wants to do, which requires a bit of extra funding.
I had a quick shot of the demo. On the first deployment, my first guy was shot dead dead instantly on stepping out of the transport craft by an unseen sniper. When I got the rest of the team off the chopper the rookie with the RPG misfired and blew up himself and two other squad mates. This caused the rest of the survivors but one to panic and either freeze on the spot or drop their weapons and run. The one remaining soldier with his wits together shot at an alien, missed and killed a civilian.
Awesome. :)
What difficulty are you playing on?
Thats brilliant, all this time and I only just read this comment, I should post some of my nightmare starts, normally I would just start again but once and a while I'll just go with the flow.
So game looks awesome and I download the demo. I start playing the demo and play a quick battle. I win but everyone except three of my soldiers die. :) So I wanna play the full demo and i place down my first base and I wanna rename it so I touch the keyboard and... game freezes. So I shut down the not responding xenonauts and my norton security scanner auto removes security risk xenonauts.
I'm like "WTF!" and try to start the game on desura again and it makes me verify the files for like 20 minutes. I open up the game again and start playing only using the mouse. I get to an alien ship interception and open up the little interception thing. It's paused and the game says "press space to unpause" so i'm like maybe it will work this time. I press space and... freeze. Anyone know whats wrong?
I keep seeing "hey we have a demo" and there is no link anywhere for the demo.
