I hope you have had a great Christmas and a fun New Year's Eve! Minecraft – Pocket Edition was released for iOS and Android in the middle of November. We went to Minecon, had vacation and then the Christmas came by and a lot of gamers got a smartphone/tablet and bought Minecraft – Pocket Edition. As I stated in a previous post we had an initial plan of making Minecraft – Pocket Edition more like Minecraft Creative. But alas we were wrong. We have read tons of comments and feedback and it seems like we made a huge mistake. You wanted monsters, resources, animals and more different blocks. This means that the initial code we had written didn't exactly fit with the new plan where we wanted to add all the stuff you have been asking for. So we have been reorganizing, rewritten and changed the whole plan for Minecraft – Pocket Edition.

So where is my update?

We have planned to submit and update by February the 8th. Then Android Market and the iOS AppStore must approve it and it will be in your hands.

What will the update include?

In the background a lot of stuff has changed to support the survival aspects of the game. You will see some neat looking animals and new blocks. Crafting won't be in this update since we need to redesign the GUI for it and it will need some iteration and thinking. But the great part is that the foundation for survival will be mostly done and we can throw out much more fun updates! Yay! :D And hopefully the progress of the updates will be much more faster. Oh, and of course some bug-fixing have been done too. Doors and fences will be in there it too!

I'll keep you updated when we have more stuff to share. In the meantime, if you want to get in touch with me you can follow me on twitter: @Kappische

People are highly impatient with updates, just sit back and play it or play pc-minecraft[or whatever OS you use] because the time till go by and the update to MCPE will be out sooner than you think.

But mostly, where's my free Minecraft Pocket Edition? :P

I'm an Alpha buyer and I must get it for free as long as the Xbox360 version, stating from what the agreement says:

It did say that if you bought it during Alpha, you'd get all expansions and updates for free. Dunno if this counts as an expansion though...More like an alternate version of the game.

in my opinion you guys should make the pocket edition free, xbox version like 5-10 dollars/euro's... since you guys already make your profit and like 99% of it off the PC version. think about it. who is really gonna stick with the pocket edition and xbox version when they could get the entire full version on PC (and i think that almost 100% of people who like minecraft have a PC XD )

For real, alpha buyers are *conveniently* not mentioned anymore, maybe we'll have to email Mojang about this?

what is so special about those of us who bought the game in alpha back in 2009?

Nothing. Some people just feel like they deserve a copy of the xbox/pocket minecraft games because Notch referred to them as different 'versions' of the game and some people evidently can't tell the difference between a complete rebuild on a new platform and a patch.

You can't discriminate between users on the iOS appstore, android marketplace or Xbox live. So any alpha user that thinks they are entitled to a free version of the xbox/android/iOS game can either pay the price and be happy that they are being made or stop whining over their interpretation of the word version and pretend those "versions" of the game were never made. They aren't going to make the game free to all (which would be the only option) because you think you are entitled to a copy across all platforms.

Oh, and not to mention that, at least on the iOS appstore, you can't make an app free to users that have paid for it elsewhere. I assume that is the case for the other two as well. I don't recall any of the alpha users originally paying through the apple appstore for the desktop versions of the game... You want it on there, you pay the price set.

Uhm... I smell envious people that whines just becouse they don't have an alpha account... :P
Don't tease yourself guys, if you would have paid for it in alpha stage looking at the agreement you would have been saying the same thing I'm saying now, but you don't, and now your asss is burning becouse you fear too much that the alpha buyers could get what they deserve according to the agreement they signed (by buying the alpha), while instead you will not get anything, so stop whining you little notch worshipers. ;)

Damn, what will I do without the £5 it costs on iOS and the £10 or so it will probably cost on Xbox Live? Struggle to control my envy, clearly... Stop whining about something that can't be changed unless Microsoft/Apple/Google change their T&Cs.
