One of the new v4 features which we have been hard at work on for a long time now is the ability for mod and game developers to upload videos to their mod, game, engine, group and personal profiles for people to view YouTube style! Our video rendering and delivery server is now up and running, and ploughing through the waiting videos.
We encourage you to start uploading videos and audio to your profile for your fans to watch! For those that want the technical details of our implementation, we are using the open source program ffmpeg to render all videos using the Sorenson H.263 codec. This is the same codec used by YouTube, but our own tweaks mean that you'll get much better quality from us. In the near future (When support for it becomes more commonplace) we'll be moving to the even higher quality H.264 codec, making videos on Mod DB an amazing way to showcase your work.
Now for a few demo embedded movies:
As always let us know if you have any problems with this feature and we will investigate. Enjoy the media (note. because it takes a good 10 ~ 20minutes per video to render, it will be a while before our servers catch up and all videos are playable, approximately 12 hours)
BRILLIANT!!
FABULOUS.
Great work! I noticed earlier and uploaded a new video. Let's see how big the queue is and when it will be online :)
Which codec did you use in the end? The quality is brilliant!

H.264 support comes along with the latest Flash 9 player, correct?
Takes more bandwidth than VP6, but at least you have an open source encoder for it. Only highly commercial platforms will be able to use VP6, which is quite a pity.
Flash 9 sorta, Flash 9.0.60 onwards supports H.264 which is currently only installed by 1% of the internet (plus it is still quite buggy).
Once the H.264 support improves, we shall move to it, but it looks like that may take up to 6 months or so
I have the beta installed yay :D
Finally!
Awesome job!
Good to know :)
Great to here, thanks for all you hard work on this & sorry for being such a pain in the butt about it.
finally nice work :D i know hallow and mikejelly will be happy
well, slightly happiER at least. :\ I'll be happy once there's an "original games" category for MOTY. :)
Amazing stuff! Keep up the great work! :D
Wow, those videos loaded amazingly fast! Thanks guys, amazing job!
That is just because we use "fake streaming" so they haven't really loaded at all. It is just a smart hack to allow you to jump back and forward in the video without having to load the entire thing
This wins the internets
YESS!!! It's done! Many thanks for that.
Finally. :D
yay my idea finally is finished! bravo!
Still nothing happens. Do you have to resubmit the videos to get them processed or does it simply take that much time since there are so many pending videos?
Your video is done now. We are down to the last 10, all 200 and pretty much processed so now a newly submitted video should be active in 1 hour
Sounds like a plan :D
Sweeeeeet!
awesome!
Is it possible to specify the freeze-frame intro-pic? If so, how do I go about it? Right now mine's just a grey blob.
We'll look into that.
Cool! Our HL2 mod "The Way" is already up and running with its new video :-D
At last! :)
any chance for full screen video
Just click on the square button to the lower right of the video player to make the video full screen.
Wow, those are some nice videos :D and that fake streaming method is awesome.
Somehow though the fake streaming fails. The videos play sometimes shattered, stopping after a couple of seconds to load for half a minute. Can it be that certain video codecs are ill supported by your backend? It doesn't seem to happen with all videos.
awesome been waiting for this.
The vids load nice and quick! Smart hack indeed! However, twice now a vid I've submitted has had the colors negated and looks awful. It was fine before the v4 reprocessing. Is there anything I should be doing on my end to prevent this? Thnx.
