Hi people !

So I keep going on some news.

My last bit of work is what I call the Vehicle Warfare System. It's not an actual coding thigny but more like a series of algorithm I'm using to define certain values.

Everything start with extensive research on armour thickness (Front/Side/Rear) , armament with their armour penetration ability on different ranges and stuff.

So were to start. To demonstrate the system I'll use some already in-game vehicles.
The Stug III Ausf. G and M4A4 Sherman V Firefly.

Let's start with the stats:


STATS

Armour Penetration :

Stug : 77-143mm
Firefly : 107-140mm

Note : I take this and use it in three purposes. First one, the potential damage. The second one, the Velocity lost during the travel from canon to target (an algorithm) . Third, depending of the target, the penetration modifier (an algorithm) .


Armour (Front/Side/Rear) :

Stug : 80/30/30mm
Firefly : 50/50/38mm

Note : Those values are use to determinate the tank's health (an algorithm) and include in one of the algorithm for penetration modifiers.



RESULTS


This would be the result on paper.

Stug :

  • Health : 1400
  • Shell Velocity (Long/Medium/Short) : 53 %/76,9 %/100 % (Those affect the final chance of penetration and damage depending on range )
  • Penetration modifier Vs Firefly (Front/Rear) : 2.86x /3.76x ( This mean that even at long range it will up the damage by 2.86x)ยน.
  • Damage : 770 - 1430

Firefly :

  • Health : 1380
  • Shell Velocity (Long/Medium/Short) : 76% /88% /100%
  • Penetration modifier Vs Stug (Front/Rear) : 1.75x /4.6x
  • Damage : 1070 - 1400


Now I'll show you what happen when you take the Stug III Ausf. G against a standard M4 Sherman I.

M4 Sherman I specs :
Armour penetration : 50-70mm
Armour : Same as for the Firefly


STUG VS SHERMAN


Stug :

  • Health : 1400
  • Shell Velocity (Long/Medium/Short) : 53 %/76,9 %/100 % (Those affect the final chance of penetration and damage depending on range )
  • Penetration modifier Vs Sherman (Front/Rear) : 2.86x /3.76x
  • Damage : 770 - 1430

Sherman :

  • Health : 1380
  • Shell Velocity (Long/Medium/Short) : 71%/ 85%/ 100%
  • Penetration modifier Vs Stug (Front/Rear) : 0.21x /2.3x
  • Damage : 500 - 700

EXPLAINATIONS


So, why do the Sherman got 0.62x modifier against Stug frontal armour and 2.3x against the rear ?

Well the answer is simple. I use 2 different algorithm for penetration modifier.

  1. When it can penetrate the armour
  2. When it cannot

Since the 75mm of the Sherman I is not strong enough to pass the frontal armor but can go through the rear, it needs different values. Shermans were having a hard time against most German tanks.
So it won't bring down that Stug if you attack from front, actually it will be a one(1) hit kill from that good Ol'Stug... or not.

This is were the Shell Velocity kick in. The canon of the Stug III Ausf. G was the 75 mm StuK 40 L/48, even if it gives a great initial velocity to the shell, it tend to loose it. At 2000m, it was only at 50% its initial one. So, here if our Stug is at long range, well, our Sherman migh just survive, it would be a close one, but could still be repaired.

I have to say one thing about you firefly vs stug example,
The 17 pdr gun was in every aspect better than the gun of the stug, The 17 pdr was also able to destroy a King Tiger at front, i know only with special ammunition, but every British tank which was equiped with that gun carried some of these shells. and why does the stug gun more maximum damage? the 17 pdr has even bigger shells only 1.62 mm but therefore the 17pdr should do more damage

I'll answer you why.

Ive been doing lost of research on the canon penetration of each tank during that specific timeline (around june 1944) and base on the most commun shell use by the crew. After this, what I found was that the Stug main gun around this time was, at close range, a little more powerfull than the 17 pdr gun of the firefly. All of this with the most commun shell of the moment.

But like you can see, the Stug shoot shells that lost lots of velocity at long range when the firefly well, loose less so in the end deals more damages at long range than our stug.

To tell you, my damage values are base on the penetration (in mm) the gun was able to do from 500 meters to 2000 meters.

And yes, the Tiger must fear that Firefly cause he can get blowup pretty easily if ambush but can get severily punish by that Tiger too. The vehicle warfare is not final, I'm still working on it, but until the moment I'll be able to find some infos about tank vs tank warfare, and how many shoots each one can take against one an other, it'll will be hard to find the right way to deal with it.
