Word is that "..entries can be made in 13 categories, including 'Best Mod,' 'Best Character,' 'Best Use of 3D Sound,' 'Best Real-Time Non-Interactive Movie (also known as Machinima),' and more"
Prizes include over $1,000,000 in total, with first prize $50,000 and a $350,000-value commercial Unreal Engine license.
So what are all you modders waiting for, get to it!
great news for modders out there!! very interesting to, i mean Epic Games have realised the importance of modifications to their games popularity, but is this a stunt to try and nullify the hype and all modders turning to HL2 which seems to be happening at the moment?
it may just be a stunt, but what a hell of a prise :o
if a mod is good enough to win that kind of money, perhaps Epic should take them uner their wing and improove it more, just like valve have done with the best of the best hl mods
that is 100% real there are tons of categories where you can win up to 15 grand! i mean anyone can really win something check out this table of prizes!

 if it was easier i would make a mod for it but ut2k3 modding makes no sense at, i can make skins and maps but thats it
Thers no point starting one..I'd say this is for mods that are allready done.
from what i read a team would have time to make a small mod kick ***.
so im gonna try to make couple models and a map and it cant hurt.
so all i need is a ut2003 mapper (GOOD) Modeler (GOOD) to make 4 models and Im set. If i win the small staff gets prizes split. If i loose than owell.
I wonder if other Developers/Publishers will follow suit? I've heard rumors about other game developers offering monetary rewards to successful mods (in a contest type fashion). The effect has been both positive and negative with teams working hard to make quality modifications but at the same time sacrificing some of the important aspects of mod development such as teamwork, sharing, community, and support amongst different mods.
It will be interesting to see how gamers and other gaming companies respond.
They did this compition a while back for UT, and it proved to be successful. But giving out an Unreal Licence.....Is there a n00b award there?!
Uh... I always new UT2k3 is crap but that you have to make a contest to attract modders? Well... that shows again that UT2k3 was more a splash than a hit... haha.
BTW... winning a Unreal Engine licence??? I would kill myself before I would get that!
Dang it, this is bloody cool! Too bad I don't mod UT2k3. I think this is a great idea to pump some good quality mods out of the community.
