Post news Report RSS Updated stats system

We've brought in a number of changes to the site stats system, which should benefit all developers interested in tracking interest in their game.

Posted by on

One of the toughest parts about succeeding when making a game or mod, is finding players for your creation. A big part of this is marketing and promoting, and we are pleased to see more and more developers taking full advantage of IndieDB and ModDB by sharing their updates with our audience. Today we reach over 250,000 unique visitors daily and it pleases us greatly that we constantly see innovative and brilliant games and mods emerge and get the publicity they deserve.

We know that a lot of developers like to track their stats (i.e. see Gang Beasts stats below and here for an example) so we've decided to improve this system.

First change is for the profile owners, the "recent referers" section should now show where all your traffic came from over the last 24hours, so you can see who is sending you visitors and writing about your game.

Second change is dissapointingly we have noticed a lot of people trying to cheat the rankings to bump their game up the charts. Admittedly it was super easy to cheat, so to combat this we've made the system ignore duplicate visitors and to reset daily not hourly. While it means it is still possible to cheat, we encourage you to play fair, as games suspected of cheating will be banned from the service - and that isn't something we enjoy doing.

We hope you enjoy these changes and as always, if there are any ways you think we can improve the site and help drive traffic to your game or mod, please let us know in the comments!

I like the solution against duplicate visitors, I have seen a lot mods where people probably use duplicate accounts.

I tried to take a look at it, but stats aren't loading for me. I even tried to see others and it gives the same error.

Try with Firefox or disable addons, sounds like something might be blocking them, as they run via flash.

Sorry for the late reply. It is working now.

First, I opened this page through Incognito mode to see if it would work, it still didn't. (So it means it wasn't an extension)

Then, a few days later, it started working again. (I believe it happened because Chrome was using the Computer's Flash, and not its integrated one)

Does this now also separate moddb.com and desura.com traffic? It seems you separated those sites recently. Comments and news were shared before.

The sites have been disconnected for a few months now and isn't a recent change.
Desura is now run by linden labs so needed to be split from moddb / indiedb.

The suggestion.

Can you add a feature, to disable for certain people the ability to write on another people profile? Kind of "stop-list", "block-list", "anti-friend" list? There is a man a bit annoying, and I'm a bit tired to "delete" his comments from my profile-page.

From the other side, I don't want to close my profile entirely.

Sorry for bad English

Can you add please ignore list? Because there some trolls who sometimes bombard private messages by slander and bad words. Thanks anyway guys

Hi! I just wanted to ask if the stats system for the mods works properly. I noticed some mods and they are updated every few minutes. For example, zeq2 lite was at number 75 (down 20 positions from 55) at 23.07 hours. Then, at 23.17 it was at number 72 but not up 3 positions, but still down 17 positions (again from 55). Also, can you tell me at what time the mods visit stats reset and count from zero again? Thanks in advance.

I also like the solution against duplicate visitors
Have the tendency to reload the page to see popularity increase or decrease. So now I know that I'm not the only visitor :)
