Thief Gold - Original Vs. HD Textures:

A new demo video split into 3 parts!

I know, all want original HD textures ^^ But...there are original textures that make no sence in some areas! For example check the video "Part 3" at 0:38 sec. ! This should be a very old monastery! A dead deserted place. With zombies and ghosts. The original textures are too bright and too fresh. My new textures make much more sense here. Also a better gaming atmosphere...

maybe too dark. an almost black texture in the dark wont look too amaizing, BUT its an awsome project judging from the vids. would be great to have an advanced engine too with hdr and stuff.

While all of the videos were impressive, the second one was terrific enough to cause my jaw to drop.

What I really appreciate is that you've reduced the occurrences of complimentary or near-complimentary texture arrangements from being suddenly bumped up against one another. The transitions from one surface to another tend to be much more gradual, natural, believable, and thus more immersive. All big bonuses.

The caves, catacombs, and tunnels were had their creepiness magnified significantly, and the tomb with the ritualized stacking of skeleton parts was totally unexpected, and totally perfect.

I don't mind the portions that I've seen where environments have been darkened from the original appearance - it still looks great, and it also amplifies the sense of night time dread.

Switching to the classic Freemasonic black and white tiled floors is a nice touch. First, it amplifies the seeming "hardness" of the tiles' material nature, by increasing the contrast between their colors. It also increases the sense of forbidden mystical knowledge, and the desire to control everything, everywhere, by denying knowledge to others, while hoarding it onto oneself for one's selfish gain. Aleister Crowley would easily find himself at home here.

I guess the Illuminati really ARE everywhere - poor Garrett really does have bad luck, doesn't he?

Bravo! I can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeves oh illuminated one!

;-D

Liked most of what you've done, but a few of the changes from bright and colourful to drabber and darker textures for certain areas I wasn't a fan of, at least as presented in the video.

It seemed much more palatable in the third video with the church, cell window and red water tub. They may not make sense, but they brought the world to life somewhat, and allowed for signposting to the player.

Nice to see Thief getting some love! I gather altering Dark Engine textures is a bit of a pain - I assume the new patches have helped?

I can't necessarily think of any that would fit in, but if you see any textures from New Vision you want let me know and I'll send them over.
