Spring news update for Exterminatus, Warhammer 40,000 themed mod for Half-Life 2. After ending January on a high note with the first publicly playable release of EX we followed up with a small patch (5.01) a week later to add a much requested automatic team balancing feature.

Our thanks goes out everyone that helped make the release a success. To the server operators who hosted EX servers, the testers who fought to make it solid, the contributors who gave us so much of their time and to the hundreds of players who downloaded and are playing the beta, THANK YOU ALL.

Since the 5.01 patch we've been working on addressing the issues raised on the EX forum and reported on our IRC channel ( #rspecies2 on the Quakenet network ) and improving to the mission objective system. The new patch (5.02) is being released today on our downloads page. A list of the changes in 5.02 can be found on our forum ( What's coming up in beta 5.02 ).

A pack containing the original source files for the space marine model textures has been released via the forum. The idea of the pack is to help fans of the many space marine chapters add them into EX. Fed up playing Ultramarines? Now you can add your favorite chapter and play as them instead.

Since the playable beta represents the final milestone in the grand plan for Exterminatus we are now entering a new planning phase to decide how EX will develop. We've had many requests and suggestions from new players that have being incorporated into a poll to help us decide what goes into the next major update. Place your vote to decide what goes into EX next.

We are hoping more people will want to contribute to EX and help improve on the quality and quantity of it's features, now that they have tasted the fruits of our labor. We could use help in all departments of the mod: PR, Voice Acting, Mapping, Modeling, Animation, 2D Art, Sound Effects and Coding.

Finally there has been some trouble with the 40ksource email system since the public beta was released. Apologies if you've been trying to contact us at the usual address and not getting any response. It should all be resolved now.

still can't sigh up :( . I had a idea that if the space marines are really sucking there is a chance the Legion of the Damned could show up to save the day...or something like that.

the AI code was extremely buggy and broke the game, so they had to be cut until a later time.

i still dont like the space marine guns right now. Bolt gun should fire faster and do less damage and the bolt pistol should do more damage but have a semi-automatic or just much slower fire rate. If you look is DoW, the space marine heroes have bolt pistols that fire every couple seconds and the regular marine's bolt guns fire at a much higher, automatic rate of fire.

We dont consider DoW to be a primary source of information on the 40k universe and take our ideas from the background material that comes with the tabletop wargame.

Thus slow firing bolter

I am not sure that they know much of the original 40k universe, IE the Tabletop miniatures game.

The comment was clearly misinformed. Hence why the user's name is 'Nonsense' ;)

Amazing work with this mod, I'd love to play it sometime soon and probably will. I'm very glad to see that you are using the original 40,000 values as a basis (much like my own Indie... which is only sleeping >.>)
