Hi guys, I just wanted to have a litte chat to you. Since no one seems to read their PM's, here's the latest goss for you.

Basically, people obviously sign up here to chat about mods, or even add mods and so I want people to understand the 5 simple, easy to follow rules on adding a mod into the moddb:

1. Site – Does your mod have a publicly visible site containing basic details? More than a page saying ‘Coming Soon’ is needed.
2. Idea – Is your mod’s idea unique? If not, change it until it is! Blatant rip-offs will be ignored.
3. Leader – Do you really have the time and commitment to lead a mod team? Making a mod may seem like a 2 week job, but most have been going for at least a year.
4. First Steps – Have you done the first step of your mod? This could be as little as some concept art, but make sure something is done!5. Motive - Are you just doing this to be famous? If so then give up now. Try to make mods simply for the art and the challenge, not for personal reasons.

Now, number 1 is the main issue we have these days. I just went though 10 mods, and 8 didnt have a working website, so if you added a mod in the last 2 weeks and was wondering why It's hasn't been authed yet, well there is your reason.

BigBird and myself are the usual mod authers around here and we usualy like to give mods a chance by sending out a PM to the mods that haven't done simple things like a website, or lots of juicy info in the about section. We then give a week or so to fix it before we delete it.

From this day forward, thats not going to happen, if its not right first time, it gets deleted right away. PLEASE make sure you add the mod right first time!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to PM me.

Haha... Wake up call! At least I finally know the truth: ModDBs authorisation checks aren't monitored by monkeys (or is it? @_@).

I sent an E-mail to untense@moddb.com that my mod's website IS under construction. The mods name was 'The Journey to Epsilon Pegasi' for FreeSpace 2. Was it deleted? I only sent you an E-Mail just to let you know that project WILL have a website.

You need to PM me or BigBird. Whever sent you the PM to begin with. Whats the point of emailing intense when its me and BigBird that sent you a pm in the first place?

The news post was needed.
Emailing folks will not get you or your mod anywhere. Sending ForKmaN or myself a PM is the way to get a reply to any mod troubles.
If you do not like this 'new' (not really that new but we're cracking down harder) tough stance, live with it and get your mod application up to scratch before worrying about submitting it.

For a mod its important that the mod web site exist before recruting or trying to talk about the mod.

Its like trying to sell products over the net without seeing the finished products, most of the poeples will said hum what is that crap a product without image!! and buy nothing :).

Its important when you have a mod to talk about the image, music or something that can interest the poeples about your mod to make and update in a regular basis. If you see a mod without news for about 2 months its not a serious mod.

My 2 cents.

trying spelling his name right to.

fork, bb, you have a perfect right to do this. You guys do most of the mod authing and you shouldn't have more work just because of some idiots that joke around or don't bother putting up a site.

I noticed a comment about the dead mods on this site...the new policy, which isn't really new, because it just enforces the existing rules, won't get rid of the "corpses" of mods that have been long since abandoned...it should just prevent new ones from being created.

I'm all for this reinforcement of the rules, and if I wasn't, who cares? Folks who don't like it don't have to sign up here. I do, however, hope that there won't be a near future erradication of mods that have not shown activity for a few weeks or months. I have some perfectly legit projects that have profiles here that are simply waiting for others to be completed before they get finished. From the looks of them, one might think that they've "died", but in reality, they are still alive and well, just moving slowly.

Out of curiousity, if you guys are the ones who monitor and prune new crap mods, who receives and approves custom logos? Or are those not being taken still...

They are a difference between membership and mod manager. Everyone can be member. I think ForKmaN trying to said if in your member options you add a new MOD then this mod must be real. nothing more. Its not about membership its about MOD managment.

1. Site – Does your mod have a publicly visible site containing basic details? More than a page saying ‘Coming Soon’ is needed.

YES: HERE

2. Idea – Is your mod’s idea unique? If not, change it until it is! Blatant rip-offs will be ignored.

YES, I haven't seen any chaotic sound packs for ET yet

3. Leader – Do you really have the time and commitment to lead a mod team? Making a mod may seem like a 2 week job, but most have been going for at least a year.

YES, as I am planning to finish the mod this week

4. First Steps – Have you done the first step of your mod? This could be as little as some concept art, but make sure something is done!

I've mentioned that in its website - 50 of 174 is already replaced.

5. Motive - Are you just doing this to be famous? If so then give up now. Try to make mods simply for the art and the challenge, not for personal reasons.

Should I laugh with irony?

and that "kill the dead mods" trend is crap - 1) people like watching dead mods 2) I know at least several mods, which have been abandoned for more than a year and risen again all of a sudden.

Was this sent to all mod leaders or just a few select people? I wanna know right away if I'm doing anything wrong :P

I think we're pretty unique, we have a working website and also a new one under construction, I can handle the workload, and the mods coming along well.

So if this is a crack at certain people let me know so I can ammend any problems people might have.

Understood.

I want to make a mod to turn tetris into starcraft only instead of goliaths, they'll be toasters and instead of buildings, they'll have toasters and instead of coming in a downloadable exe, it will be a toaster. All I need now is a website and programmers and the tetris source code and the source code to my toaster.

Agreed, which is why we ask that simple thing.

Also, a website is NOT forums, nor is it a bunch of non-formated text on a really crappy tiled psycho background.

You cant just modify the sounds and leave the rest the same!

This is why some other mods are rejected.

Well...duh...dunno why I did recieved this kind of warning. We have a fully operating website and right now we are working to update it time to time, you have to understand that most of us do have a job, wife/girlfriend and such, and so we are not able to post news day by day on moddb. However, we do try to work as fast as we can. We did aquired a great musician and some samples of his work are now available...Ok, I just conviced myself to post something new :D
