The Strider Mountain team announces a Pre-Release on 02.14.2009: The first 5 of 17 total levels.
The pre-release download will contain the first five (5) fully playable levels and will take the player through Gordon Freeman's journey as high winds take him OFF COURSE, and he makes his way to the OUTPOST that sits at the base of StriderMountain

Why the decision to do a pre-release of the first 5 levels instead of waiting to release the entire 15 level mod?
The simple answer: We want to give you something to play NOW while we optimize the other 10 levels.
The technical answer: After much discussion, trial and error and beta testing results...We switched back to the original SDK base instead of the Orange Box Software Developer's Kit (OB SDK) base because there are a lot of bugs that appeared with the new code. We didn't want to spend the extra time fixing these bugs when we already built a working mod on the normal HL2 code. If we would have started the mod using the OB SDK base it would have been doable. Also with Spy (StriderMountain Level Designer) not being able to run and test the maps on the new OB SDK base while he is building created the extra challenge of upgrading to this new code.

Glad to see it on Moddb's... um... watcha call it? Flash screen? You know, the flash slide with all the major news? Anyway, it was there, first to appear! Good job TBBiggs, SPY, and Cube (Who's job is done :P) I was thinking of posting it on HL2Life, but I decided to wait for the full because it will run on Episode 2 and I will have a better computer during that time. What else can I do but promote myself? ;P

Nice mod, but there are way too many enemies in some places.
The leveldesign is also strange in some places, too.
But all things considered this is a good mod very varying ;D
This made my head hurt, I dont know if its me...but the level flow gave me a headache ugh. Also whats with having to empty a clip of SMG ammo into someones head to kill them it felt like a was hitting them with a pee shooter...

WOW, :P I told you I had a headache...but seriously. It didnt feel like anything was coming out of the gun. Airsoft gun maybe?

I would have to say I did enjoy the first 5 levels of this mod and would have to agree with a lot of which people are saying.. although I did enjoy it I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped.. but its also a pre-release so.. hopefully some of the things people didnt like will be changed before the final release.. or that the rest of the levels are better than the first five. my main issues with the mod were that even though a linear game can be boring because of it being too linear i didnt have a problem with the mod being linear however a linear mapping style where the flow of certain parts of maps is confusing can be annoying and takes away from the over all game play which happened too many times to tell you where exactly i ran into problems. I would have to also agree that the SMG's damage needs to be increased and maybe find better sfx for it. Other than that I enjoyed the mod and look forward to the next release! It seems like it picks up after those first 5 levels.

I found this frustrating as you went from over the top hard to over the top easy, the level design needed more routes, but i felt it was amazingly built with some great set peices.
Excellent mod guys, it lives up to the expectations. I agree with the comments that it took an ungodly amount of ammo to kill anything, but on the other hand I kind of liked the challenge. Can't wait for the finished product. :D
