StarForge is a game about gathering resources, building bases, buying weapons, using strategy, and destroying your opponent’s bases to win the match has released the first playable version!

Posted by Greg on May 31st, 2012

Some the features shown in the video are not yet included in this build but they will be playable soon.

We are currently trying our best to work out the kinks and get our project polished and working like we had imagined it. The first build was extremely rushed and I was unsure about releasing it in the state it was but we needed to time it right with E3. We are aware of it's quirks and welcome feedback from people who try it out. Rest assured we are aware of what makes a quality game and such will come in time. The next couple days we are doing nothing but addressing people's complaints and making the game more accessible to everyone.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: When the game launches you will be immediately greeted with a blank screen. This is normal behavior, as the level is building during this phase. It may take a couple minutes on some computers. This is something we plan to fix in the near future.

Well, it's not playable for me:) 3.0 Ghz dual-core CPU, 4 gigs of ram, Ati 4850 512mb vga, even on worst graphical settings, it's unplayable as soon as i spawn enemies and/or any defense tower.

The game is pretty unplayable for me. Also this version has hardly any of the features in that video :s. Still love the idea and video, can't wait to see new release.

I have to say, the fact you made such a game in unity is amazing. Do you guys think it would have ran better on a custom engine?

We probably would be still making the engine if we did that. :)

I only have one word: ****!

ok, I have some more. xD
You are going to make every game company go bank-rupt! This is free! I was amazed with that 'alpha' of the blocks. The more gamy one also. But this? ****!
I'm just sad my PC will probably not run it, online even less.

The game doesn't even open at all, it freezes on startup and stays that way.

I really want to play this ****, but I can't.

Well it works for me tho the black screen is because its frozen when you start the game it will work in less then a minute (at least for me)
If it dont work try to do press ctrl+Alt+Delete then check the status on Starforge it will say frozen but it will change (hopefully did with me) ive been able to play a bit on it but after a few minutes i get a black screen and have to restart it. Hope this will help you who have the game frozen in the start.

You should release a version for those of us who don't have supercomputers (yet). Personally, i wouldn't mind a loading screen or two in order to actually play this game instead of watching a slideshow of it.It looks great though! Excellent work on the physics and the tile system.

So far, it's pretty good. Here's some feedback.

* The building system's pretty great, honestly. It's easy to build in a certain direction, as well as simple to build on top of the 'floor' that you're on, or on different blocks.

* The animations are really well-done.

* The graphics are sweet.

* The audio's nice. It adds nice ambiance to the world.

Could be improved on:

* For there to be such a capability for vertical movement, the lack of air control when jumping makes it next to impossible to move where you want. Even jumping up a single block from directly next to it is overly difficult.

* There's not enough friction in the game; I think the character feels too 'floaty'. I think he should accelerate and decelerate much quicker.

* Putting the camera on the player's head gives a good feel of really being first-person, but it gets aggravating when you literally can't see where you're going or what you're doing because the player's head (and body) is moving around so much. It would probably be a good idea to place the camera out of the way of the player's head.

(P.S. It might be a good idea to restrict the player's 'flailing animation capabilities' if it's in first-person mode - I think it gets more distracting than necessary.)

Great start so far, and it's really an interesting concept.

You know what?! Guys... You Are Excellent!
Really, few aspects:
1) How... How have You made game with this graphics on... Unity? No, really, Your game is damn first I ever seen on unity with that graphics!
2) It's a really good idea to make rpg/strategy/action/shooter/survival game with real time making morph system (how You mind it?).
3) How You made non loading system? Do We need to buy new powerful PC for massive multiplayer matches?
4) And last I guess... I blame you for cutting falling on Earth scene T_T
Thanks for attention =)

Thanks for all your feedback guys, we read everything! The next version is coming along well and we are making a really robust settings screen that should allow the game to run on most rigs. We don't want just good rigs to run the game, so this is priority one right now. Thanks for your patience. :)
