It's been over 2 months now since the first release and many of you are itching for the next one. We have been hard at work finalising everything from abilities to small icons and over all the mod looks and feels a lot more polished. Here is a breakdown of what's been done.
Abilities
Abilities in most cases have been reworked and added to near enough all ships in the mod. Titans now have the proper ones and the Borg also have many more to get you in a spin (Dodecahedron). Heroes also have had abilities added to them, for example Captain Picard can now call in ships for assistance though at a cost of some resources.
Abilities have also been reworked such as the Nebulas shield penetration ability which has been toned down. The L6 now has a repair ships ability and the Dominus has a shield restore ability, as well as many more for all the frigates not just for the Feds any more.
Balance Testing
Possibly one of the most tedious and most anger fueled discussion causer, balancing has been consistent on an almost nightly basis. The Borg have stuff done to them, the Romulans were redone a bit because of stupidly invincible cap ships (BANE!). Also many economies have been re-worked to be more reflective, so Fed still have the best trade but the Klingons have better resource extraction rates. The Borg have also been made a bit weaker but a bit more manageable so they are a more enjoyable race to play and fight against as the Cube has been pushed back in the tree and the Trapezoid has been made the first one.
Iconography and Sound
Has mostly been finished, apart from the Borg all will have there research buttons replaced to more trek style and all the little ship icons in the main game have also been mostly replaced and the when you select a ship a small flag of your race will pop up in the center. Also the research menus have there little pictures replaced and the colours have all been changed in the backgrounds to better suit the races. New sounds have also been added and the fighters now have voices. When you click a station they'll have a unique sound when you press them. Furthering the systemic removal of all stock assets within the mod.
Hopefully there won't be a news piece after this and soon the 1.0 release will be out in the wild. Then it will be full work on the expansion which we'll have more on a later date.

Excellent, I do hope the cruiser spam has had a look also as that's can be quite a fun killer in MP matches. I look forward to playing the new version. Love the fact the Romulans will be balanced as they were the most powerful race in game atm. Good things do indeed come to those that wait :)

Captain Shack said it may be time to do another Armada III Let's Play. He's probably had this version for a while. He'll probably break down and do a Sins of the Prophets too. Thanks for the mods guys. You bring joy to the masses.

ok so i may have gone a tad overboard on the Romulans ! Who knew eh! Now back to work i go ready for release :P
Hey bane, when it says "the Romulans were redone a bit because of stupidly invincible cap ships" Does that mean that you made the scimitar weaker or stronger? Because I know for damn sure that the scimitar wasn't any-damn-where near invincible. In-fact, it was the least successful unit I had (Shrikes somehow lived longer in combat)
The scimitar has not been nerfed! But max has added some new abilities :)

Since you mentioned swapping the Borg cube down the line and making the Trapezoid the first cap ship, have you done the same with the Romulans? With the Borg change, the Romulans will be the only faction whose first capital ship is not the colonizer, which is kind of a bummer, as it drastically impacts my playstyle. If you haven't, please consider doing so!

We have actually added colonise to the vengeance and chaged the dderidex abilities :)

But the real question, will Romulan griffins still number in the hundreds :p
well i left the dev build running the other day with the holo griffin ability , i might post the image up for giggles, when i came back to my computer after 30 seconds my response was "holy mother of...." note to self autocast and unlimited asntimatter and instant ability cooldowns = bad!
I'd like a giggle, tho I was mainly referring to how cheap low tier crusiers were to build only 4 supply etc ;)
But but griffin spam (PS in my eyes the romulans should always win)

I saw DS9 in one of those pics :) I'm assuming that's going to be buildable for the Feds in the next release? What about Locutus and the Queen? Are they in now?

DS9 was a Cardassian station. If anything I am assuming they will be Cardassian stations unless they have figured out hero starbases :p
I know DS9 was originally a Cardassian Station, I was just wondering since we won't be getting the Nor class stations until the Dominion are added, and DS9 is actually buildable for the Feds in the SOA2 mod, so i was just wondering of the A3 team had done something similar.
Any chance the Undine/Species 8472 will make it into the game post 1.0 Release? I'm absolutely obsessed with them, but was somewhat disappointed by their Armada II race. Also I've played several Armada 2 modes that add a ton of really awesome ships. Any chance you'll slowly add more ships outside the relatively few "normal ones" (Galaxy, Sovereign, Negh'Var, Cube) I really like some of the fan-made/slightly-canon ones.
They've said previously that 8472 won't be a faction, but perhaps a random event.
