Too much is at stake, tell Congress: don't censor the Web.

Today, the 18th of January is the day to let it be known that you oppose two bills currently before the United States Congress.
These bills, PIPA (Protect Intellectual Property Act) and SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) have the noble goal of attempting to eliminate the theft of copyright. They propose to do this however, in a manner which will fundamentally break the internet. Imagine a world where Youtube was banned, Minecraft was stopped because a fan made a character out of blocks which loosely resembles a movie star, or ModDB.com closed because someone from the community posted something inappropriate.
These threats are real, and today we call upon our audience to make themselves heard and let members of the Senate and the House know that while we must all work together to stop piracy, eliminating our freedom of speech on the internet is not the solution.
Actions speak louder than words so please:
Finally, to all of the sites which have taken the extremely bold move of blacking out today - we salute you.
Thanks to Explosm for the graphics used.
Really?... I thought Obama vetoed it and now congress has 1 month to review it.
Filesonic is also down as well as more file share sites. Sopa may be dead but the effects are still taking place it seems.
Don't forget about the EU ACTA! Which is pretty much the same dung!
The internet should be free!
Old men running the world, a new age!
I really don't understand how people would draw parallels between this and socialism - for christ sake, the concept of the law is to give the power of censorship to the COMPANIES, to make the hunt for profit control the internet, that if anything would be the polar opposite of socialism!
Goddamn americans are still mentally in cold war-mode.
DON'T SENSOR THE INTERNET!
Heavy: Ooh MY GOOOOOoOoOooO-T.

SOPA = STOP ONLINE PRIVACY ACT
They alredy closed megaupload D:
It's time you show europe some support to!
can you guys please put up an article about ACTA?
several governments (like sweden) already accepted it >.<;
please help!
SOPA is not helping what so ever...It's going to cause Illegal PIRACY to go up by millions of people.....I say to LEAVE IT ALONE! DOWN WITH SOPA!
I don't really mean Down with SOPA because it's impossible to do that. They should just not ban everything with a copyright infringement.Maybe give a warning?
Forgot SOPA.
I would be worried about the ACTA(worse than SOPA) and is getting no media attention.

ACTA seems pretty bad so far..
I love that because they want law about internet but they don't even know how use it
My country just signed ACTA. Now we're getting sings to throw away our so-called prime minister and his crew.
Now theres only OPEN and ACTA to worry about.
Though its also possible for PIPA and SOPA to come back from the dead.
So far, nothing happend, and I heard about this half a year ago. If not longer. So, yeah, nothing we need to pay attention to.
