The game is in very early prototyping stages, a video of the jump pad mechanic can be seen here:

Portal didn't "take" anything, Valve hired the TAG creators and made them implement this in their game. What this is is a copy.

The difference between this and portal is that you have no tool in this one.
While in protal you would use the protal gun to steer all features, you only need to move, run and jump in this trial.
