Post news Report RSS SO Obtains Photorealistic Textures Pack

A brand-new addition to Situation Outbreak, courtesy of BerneyBoy. This is sure to make most all of you mappers out there jumping for joy.

Posted by on

I am proud to announce that Situation Outbreak v1.52 will include the Photorealistic Textures Pack from BerneyBoy's Map Design. The pack contains over two thousand textures, everything from brick buildings and glass windows to grassy meadows and rocky cliffs.

We're hoping this will get some more mappers interested in our project and encourage our own mapping team here at Agent Red Productions to improve the look of the current map lineup.

For more stills of the textures to be included in v1.52, click here or here.

In other news, v1.52 will be released sometime next weekend. We're sorry for the delay, but we've been keeping ourselves very busy. It will include a brand-new weapon, the semi-automatic shotgun, as well as some much-needed reskins of our current weapon lineup and the usual map and bug fixes. There's also a special boss system in the works for the Survival, Holdout and Objective gamemodes. A video demonstrating this new feature should be out for all to see soon, so stay tuned!

Thanks everyone. Comments, questions, suggestions and complaints are more than welcome. The team will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible either here or via a private message.

they don't cause lag. They work perfectly, tiled correctly and everything

Don't worry, textures themselves don't slow down machines or anything unless they're extremely complex, like an animated texture or something.

They look good in a banner, but they probably look like *** in-game.

I've actually taken a look at those textures before, almost all of them are as not as large as standard textures in hl2 and they visibly repeat in-game.

Texture size can easily be changed inside Hammer. Whatever map you played on that was using these textures probably didn't change the texture size. Don't worry, we'll be sure to use them properly. =)

well, you can only stretch a texture so much before it starts looking like ***. If alex is right, then you really shouldn't be stretching them too much anyway, given that they're of such a low resolution.

they look great :P i have used them in a new map, the resolution is 512 by 512 and thats normal for hl2 textures

Photo realistic textures are nice looking but if you over do them (to realistic) they don't look good next to other textures such as default HL2 textures they might contrast to much.

And instead of cutting people down for being concerned about them why don't you give them proof (in game screenshot)that they do work good :)

Are these textures going to be inserted into Hammer via next patch or do we have to packrat it in manually?
