What are you waiting for? Download it on Moddb
While you are downloading the file, you are encouraged to watch the orientation video. This will explain many basic mechanics and maneuvers in the game, and make it a whole lot easier to get started.
Look out for updates in the near future, with new maps, characters, and other content!
After you play, please take a moment to send any and all feedback / bugs / suggestions to Ben_E in order to improve the game in future versions!
Thank you for trying Perfect Stride!
Special! Will be fun to try it out!
Ben_E,
I have to admit when I saw the video for this mod I laughed and told all my buddies "check this ____ out!" and we all lol'd. Of course now after playing the mod, I have to say I had a great time. Thank you so much for a very fun challenging puzzle that reminded me of TFC conc maps. My only complaint would be is that once I figured out the controls each map took me 2-3mins and I finished the game in under 10mins total (took me a bit of practice to warm up).
I highly recommend everyone try this Mod it is both original and fun. It's like a 7mb download and well worth it. Will be promoting in ZPS community. I hope to see more effort and more maps in the near future!
Cheers,
Tats...
I'll try it dude...
Learning the game mechanics until I was able to get all the orbs in the 3 levels was incredibly satisfying. Thank you for making this.
I'm not as good as you other guys seem to be, but I freaking love this mod. I'm psyched to see how it improves.
It took me a really long time to figure out how to move effectively. For 10 minutes I got dizzy from literally skating backwards (fail!) as I tried to speed up. D:
There's something satisfying about learning the skating mechanic when previously I had no idea what I was doing despite watching the tutorial video before.
this doesn't really take advantage of the engine it's on; the same exact physics could be achieved with even just stock Quake (and was more successful at that. See Slide). Given the GPL source, which allows you to create standalone games from, you potentially could have a DS/PSP/Wii version of this game, as well as using a NES color palette for the game, and you can still use Hammer! Just pretend Worldcraft 1.6 is Hammer editor (well, it technically is, given both editors are developed by Ben Morris)
I agree.With HL1 engine you can made it,too LOL
But in terms of probable (versus potential) audience, the Source engine trumps Quake (not many people still playing its mods) and DS/PSP/Wii (not many people playing mods when they have access to free ROMs of retail games).
So while it doesn't take advantage of the engine, the modder has learnt skills on a more relevant engine and has provided a mod that more people will enjoy.
Not to mention this is a perfect example of how to take an original idea and keep it smallscale to guarantee a release everyone can enjoy.
"Potential audience"? That's no issue when you can standalone it not even needing any of the original Quake data to begin with. Kinda missed my point there.
Source's audience (as in the multiplayer mods made for it) definitely doesn't trump the current free multiplayer games using the Q1/Q3 engines though (including my own). Check the master servers for those, there's at least or close to 100 players on at any given time. Most Source mods played online i've seen only have a handful like 10 or 16 or so, and that's counting the hypy ones such as Fortress Forever, DragonBall: Source and Eternal Silence.
It helps to think realistically, and realistic as in Source-isn't-jesus.
leilei: isn't that kind of harsh... i mean if you ask me its just another single player hl2 mod... we should all be happy that there are any mods at all... most hl2 mod's pritty much suck. otherwise people would flood them and it would be a pain in the arese to get in a server that wasn't packed. actually now that i think on it... zombie panic or whatever that one zombie mod has like freeken 200+ players on ever time i look... myself i dont really care for the mod but it seams like a lot of players do.
1. He's learnt to work with a current gen engine.
2. He's released a single-player mod that will likely receive more players (your online players is redundant since this is not an online game, give me download figures)
None of your arguments undermines any of those points.
P.S. You quoted Quake in your first post, not Q3.
You want download figures?
Moddb.com
lol, in v3 this was the most popular file
Web.archive.org
Also, MAN I love getting voted down because I don't fellate Source engine!
Also I quoted Quake in my first post because that's the exact bare tech needed.
your not a chinese girl at all!
Like I said before, you didn't mention id tech 3 in your first post. You were talking about 'stock Quake'. I said there's no point in modding for 'stock Quake' just because it can do the concept a little better if nobody's going to play it.
Either admit that there are less people -currently downloading- (as in, over the past 12 months, let's say) Quake (not id tech 3) mods than Source mods, or give me download figures for Quake (not id tech 3).
Since you never mentioned id tech 3 in your original post, it should be clear that I was never arguing against it. -__-
Not to mention one of the reasons this type of game was made on Source is because the engines is introduced to people via many different genres of games, whereas id tech 3 has primarily been introduced to people who like hardcore deathmatch and team deathmatch.
Source on the other hand has had not only its engine but its tools introduced to people who like FPS single-player, hardcore team tactical FPS, hardcore team war FPS, hardcore team CTF FPS, and more recently- casual team FPS and puzzle platformer FPS. That's a lot of different genres and a big melting pot of players with different ideas. In terms of wide-reaching retail introductions to the engine that advertise and provide the tools direct to the end-user, id tech 3 does not have that range to draw from.
hmm, I guess the word "standalone" is not in your vocabulary. How could anyone miss that in my original post? You honestly thought I meant a mod REQUIRING the original Quake game?
Jesus. No point arguing with someone who manipulates and twists whatever you post to argue into Source's favor for silly reasons.
No, Leilei. This is where you give me download/sales figures of people buying or downloading standalone games or mods in the last 12 months using the Quake engine (not id tech 3 as you mentioned in your second post). These figures are no way gonna outnumber Source mod downloads.
You weren't specific enough when you said 'just stock Quake'. Since when can a Nintendo DS handle id tech 3? It can't, but it can handle 'just stock Quake'. Be more specific.
P.S. Lol at you voting me down simply because I don't agree with you.
this is a very fun single player mod and it is very small and a short download time. i suggest anybody who likes speed to try this mod out. congrats for the most fun little mod award from me.
I think its highly original and fun.
My only suggestion to you would be to make a series of tutorial levels.
Simple things to get players up to speed.
I spent a good 15 min trying to get out of the first bowl :)
Great to see fresh and new ideas.
Cant wait to see where you take it.
W00T... Just beat level 3
Wah ha! I just beat the game, very fun! Its weird, usually with this sort of thing, you get to a high up place and fall-and then get very frustrated. However I just got more excited! very fun and looks like the community will be able to make more maps for it very easily. perfect way to kill time.
I want much more levels! :D
Amazing gameplay and retro-style!
Type sv_cheats 1 into console then sv_friction 4 and you got this mod. :P
Ohh great, another frustrating mod to make people yell at their screens WTF GODDAMN IT I SHOULD HAVE MADE THAT JUMP!!!!
You need GIGANTIC MOUSEPAD to play this
Well, guess I will have to give it a try :)
if you surf in css, you will love this game =D
The graphic and sound style is rather nice, I dig the retro feel of it, I just don't like the controls which remind me of Urban Terror jump servers. To me it becomes more about precision and dealing with controls. Others will like it though I think.
Nice game! :D You've made a solid foundation in which you can build a lot of entertaining levels. Got a perfect on the first two levels and only managed to begin the next level before fatigue got me. :)
It's like a cheap mirror's edge :P
Great Mod! I loved the movement, reminds me of surfmaps! Would love to test new maps since i beat your 3 in no time :P
