This mod still has a long way to go, so I was pretty surprised that it got mentioned with the likes of Counterstrike, DOTA, and Natural Selection, among others. This is exciting news and it's a great motivator for me -- how can I let this mod's flaws remain while taking this kind of praise? I have to work extra hard to finish the patch, because I've got a lot to live up to.
Speaking of the patch, I have been neglecting talking about it here on ModDB. It's been in progress, but it is taking longer to finish than I would like. I've got a lot done, but there's still more to do. It is a 3.1 instead of a 4.0 because this patch is save-compatible. Even so, it adds a lot:
FINISHED:
- Some lords with a wardrobe malfunction had them fixed
- Ikko samurai recruitment cost is fixed
- Giant arrow flight meshes have been fixed
- Companions sent as emissaries no longer disappear (in fact, they should return)
- Lord parties now tend to have higher tier troops
- Thrust is re-enabled for spears on horseback
- Yari now have overhead thrust rather than overhead swing (other polearms still have overhead swing)
- Nanban and Yukinoshita armor now have additional modifier types
- Fixed freelancer message spam when your lord is defeated while you are on vacation
- Agents and Experienced Agents (ninjas) can be bodyguards in addition to companions
- Increased morale from leadership, with additional morale bonuses from INT and CHA
- OPTIONAL: increased party cost for samurai units (samurai take up 2 spots -- the 2nd spot is for off-screen servants)
- Several minor dialogue touch-ups and typo fixes, including re-named menu options for clarity and consistency
- Slightly improved bridge battle scene
- Completely new wedding scene
- Completely new productive enterprise scene
- Added 2 new lord's hall scenes
- Added a biography page in the Gekokujo Options of the camp menu
- Smarter formation AI for more difficult battles (no more slow circling)
- Improved sode (shoulder guard) mesh for high class armors
- Fixed swarming by bandit groups (needs more testing)
- Fixed bugs relating to imprisoning lords in neutral forts (needs more testing)
- Sieges now have gates that the attackers must batter down during battles
- Sieges should now have slightly more archers in vantage points
- Sieges now have 2 wait times: normal and long (AI always chooses normal)
- Long wait times for engineering-based sieges will automatically batter down the first gate
- Long wait times for ninja-based sieges will lower gate hp from 60 to 40
- Old siege style with no gates can be toggled (new siege style is default)
- Miscellaneous castle siege scene fixes and improvements
- Kyoto overhauled to make it a unique city (new streets, new castle, new arena)
- Some villages have been moved to make the map have a slightly more even distribution
- Integated world map HD textures by painbringer
- Integrated animations by jacobhinds
IN PROGRESS:
- Improved face textures for female characters
- Procedurally-generated quests
- Procedurally-generated encounters (REAL encounters, not just popups with choices)
- (I say procedurally-generated rather than random because they take into account your progress)
- Ability to work in town or a village for small amounts of money
- Entertainers in inns to improve morale
- Criminal activities (from pickpocketing to burglary to racketeering)
- The amount of bandits that spawn is proportional to how many factions are on the map (more united = less chaos)
- When Japan is united or nearly so, there will be random outbreaks of rebellion instead of a steady stream of bandits
- AI should now choose between multiple melee weapons properly (instead of defaulting with the weakest as it often does)
- Proper musket animations
- Player gets a lord icon on the world map if they have enough troops and/or are a lord
- Several minor bugfixes
UNDER CONSIDERATION:
- Service businesses (ability to run your own inn, teahouse, or bathhouse)

The sieges will be a very nice and necessary improvement to this already fantastic mod (the mess in sieges was the worst point of 3.0), and all the new features are looking 100% "genius inside" !!! And congratulations for this article in PCGamer, Gekokujo is a very high quality mod and you deserves this.

Can the hero to build your castle, for example, near his village, as in the AD1257?
Do you plan to increase the force of impact, shot and throwing for ninjas? And now these men represent a very weak warriors, and yet in reality they killed an enemy with a single blow.
Is it possible to make a betrayal of Lords in the fractions so they went over to the enemy with their lands, if the relationship with the heads of factions bad?
Is it possible to do to the other faction bribed hero to go to him, with the promise of some privilege or wealth?

I don't want to sound as if I were complaining, because I really am not, yet I find this is a good opportunity to recommend some improvements in different areas ;
Indeed the Sode are often a little small, but also the armor color schemes are indeed very varied, which is great, but even to a degree where achieving a fully color-coherent armor is almost impossible, which is a little too much.
As a Kendo practitionner I can but be impressed by the work on the two handed animations. Indeed not perfect, if I were teaching I'd say to the man "relax your shoulders, when you take chudan after striking try to center your guard as not to have head opening, don't keep it too high as not to open your kote." and so on. But even getting there is an impressive job.
I found that Kengeki Gaiden also does a decent job on this, some animations are just on Kengeki use way too much arm power rather than shoulders and balance, making them indeed realistic for Kendo but extremelly terrible. Others, yet, are excellent Shomen Uchi strikes that show good technique and good tenouchi to stop the strikes. You have all ranges from very good to very bad. :P
I hope to see a similar result on naginata animations in the longer term.

This mod is awesome, and I'm looking forward to the new additions with the patch. I have one idea, you should add chancellors to the staff when you own a castle or a city.
One more thing, and I don't mean to be pushy, but could you also add a feature to change your faction color. You might have already done it, I just kind of skimmed through the new features list, but if not it's definitely something to think about. Red's not my color lol.
