Report article RSS Feed PC Modern Warfare 2: it's much worse than you thought

Modern Warfare 2 has long earned the ire of PC gamers for its lack of dedicated servers, but Infinity Ward has now announced that it's taking away much more than control over hosting with the game in one long face-palm of a question and answer session. No servers, no console, no mods, no problem!

there is no function to record matches;
the largest matches will be limited to 9 v 9 players;
IW.net will determine who should be the host player.

Also the ppl that already got the game can't run it because of steam, that probably means that the game will need steam launched to run :/

Check the links above for more info.

Also:

Moriarte: Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?

Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.

This is the amount of work that went into the PC version: you are given the ability to use a mouse, to use text chat, and to adjust graphical settings. Are your fears now put to rest?

Q: Is there a console in the PC version of the game, so we can change our field of view from the xbox's default 65 FOV to 80 also can we tweaks the weapon damage for each gun, removes perks, graphical debris, breathing sway, also thru console like we where able to before or is this all gone?

Vince-IW: We would like you to play the game the way we designed and balanced it.

To sum it up

We thought the lack of dedicated servers was bad, but now we can add the lack of console commands, the inability to have a say in who hosts the game, a lengthy pause while the game migrates to a new host if the currently selected host quits, no leaning, no option to record matches, and no way to kick or block trouble players, hackers, or cheaters.

You have to wonder if there are any actual PC gamers working at Infinity Ward, as it will be a challenge to find any member of the PC gaming community that will stand up for any of these omissions, not to mention all of them bundled together. At launch, this will be one of the most locked-down, inflexible, and gamer-unfriendly game ever created.

It won't stay that way, of course. The pirates will have the game up on the torrent sites soon, if they haven't already, and the code will be ripped apart and modded to allow everything gamers want. How quickly will dedicated servers pop up for these pirates? It's hard to say... but we have a feeling it won't be long. Those that buy the game legally will have no choice but to play exactly how the developer and publisher want them to. On the other hand, this has given us some incredibly amusing images from the peanut gallery. The images were found on Evil Avatar's discussion thread.

I agree, although MW2 does look extremely entertaining, Infinity Ward has dudded hard with the decreased support for PC multiplayer. Bad Company 2 looks like it will meet expectations.

MW2 just ruined the good name of activison and Infinity ward and Treyarch i mean, no dedicated servers and no mods, those are the 2 things that separates the PC and the console..

To be honest I don't really care - I played COD4 on PC and PS3 and I didn't mind the changes.
I'm getting this on console anyway :P

So these changes basically don't affect me in anyway.
To be honest I hated it when there were like 36+ people playing in one game the connection for most people was bad, and the game lagged like hell. Smaller size matches I didn't really mind at all on the console versions :/

Well I'm still getting it and I'm going to enjoy it on console :P

Heh, it automatches with people who live in your region, and level. When playing COD4 I always get a low ping game :)

So I don't tihnk that's much of a problem, clan matches can be done by creating a massive party and going into a private game lobby - done it frequently on COD4.

There's also a convenient Party System and private Match Systemin Modern Warfare 2 as well :P

Mw2 is gonna be bought for xbox. You should stay away from the PC because you need a goddamn good PC for it. Basicly they want to make the game for PC as xbox 360 with ability to change things in a small rate.

Xbox 360 FTW!

Bad news..
I expected that this will be a next step in fps gaming.
But what do I see?
No mods - no real fun.
No dedicated servers - no comments.
9 v 9 matches - BORING.
No console - no fps jumping >.< and else..

Now I'm really thinking of getting pirate version from torrents and cracking it so it'll work on some servers.... Thanx God it costs just $10 in Ukraine, but even in that case game won't be as good as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Why? There're mods, there're 64 player servers, there's console... Damn.. It's just ******* good!

I though that CoD:WaW failed... Now I see that Call of Duty lost it self... Just look at original game and CoD: United Offensive - they're still interesting to play, their multiplayer is enjoying also...

I'm afraid of CoD:MW2 will not be interesting >.<

PHAIL IW

And yes, Now I really prefer BFBC 2.

I can't understand why IW would screw themselves over. PC gamers were their roots, and they're just forgetting them in the dust. One of the major advantages for a PC is that you can have mods and custom maps. I'm shocked that would be no modding support, period. I wonder if Infinity Ward had a major say in this, or if it was Activision was making the calls. Either way it's not good. I wouldn't mind the 9v9 limit though, those massive games were extremely laggy. Although, I would've gone with a 16v16 cap instead.

This is like this because they were to lazy to do some extra job and just want to get fast money, this is purely a total hard console port liek Dr was, in this one we even have mouse support, text chat and more settings, imo wtf. Proly the next cOD from iW will be console exclusive, also they think this will stop pirating theyr game! LOL! Also they stole almost every community idea like ac130, nuke trowing knives, double attachments, sticky nades like everything was in mods mainly in X4 mod for Cod4 some servers even had weapons like Glocks, Famas, some other remodeled ones :/ this sucks. I will get it when il find some underprised russian copy in local shop just to get the cdkey, il just download the game from random site for SP :/

Anyway BFBC2 looks like 10x more awesome, check BF group for latest demo video it looks, sounds much better than Mw2
