The graphics were good, but the gameplay was total ****. I waisted two clips on one person, and atleast half of those bullets should of been headshots. Either the hitboxes fail or the damage sucks. Also, the recoil was total ********.

Please note, that if you wish to run any half-life mp mods, remove opengl32.dll out of your half-life folder, as it gets detected by VAC, and won't let you enter a VAC-Secured server.

I'm stating, that if you want to play Half-Life MP and it's mods online, you have to remove the file off of the Half-Life folder, or else you'll be either logged by VAC, or told you cannot enter the server.

If you have half-life on steam, if you haven't played it yet, all you have to do is start up half life through steam and it will create it's own directory. Then you can install this mod.

Minigun_Fiend Dec 3 2007, 6:25pm says:

Yes, the team did a fantastic job at making HL1 look like HL2 on low detail (and that really is an incredible piece of work, don't get me wrong), and sure, the atmosphere throughout the game is a spot on flux between horror and action - but the entire game is let down by shoddy gameplay in my opinion.

From the completely worthless AI teammates who spend their time either taking cover behind boxes or telling you to move out of their way, but never actually seem to do any shooting, to the enemy zombies who may as well have just been headcrab zombies for all the 'forward, backward' knife slashing you can use to kill them.
All this, even, I could stand if the guns themselves were any good. But they aren't.

Every gun you get throughout the game seems to be set to 'miss'.
Creeping out from behind cover, crouched, with ironsights up, and even firing in semi-automatic seems to hit about 3 metres away from the crosshair; a problem that doesn't even go away when using the guns at close quarters!
Even THAT wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the enemy soldiers who seem to have super accuracy cheats on or something!

The part where you have to give sniper cover to troops entering a building was a massacre of what shouldve been a great gaming moment, simply because the enemies with AK-47s can aim better than the sniper rifle you're given!

Another point of annoyance for me was the lack of guidance through the levels. It might just be me, but I like to know where I have to go next, rather than backtracking trying to find the elusive door which has now miraculously opened because I killed the last enemy.

Sorry to burst everyone's happiness bubble about this, and I don't meant to dissuade people from trying it out - it's an awesome effort and a bloody miracle the thing works on the HL1 engine - but the entire thing is, like so many commercial efforts, let down by poor gameplay.

I have no problem with the shooting in this mod, as when I shot the bad guys in the head they died immeadiently & my gun's didn't miss. I also found the A.I to be good. I also found it quite easy to work out where I was supposed to go, & as for doors opening once you've kill certain enemies, well this is stardard game play.

I found this a great mod so your not busrting my bubble at all......;)

Anyone stiil having graphics problems with this mod on their version of HL (even after trying BuZZeR's fixes), should try the unofical patch at the following web addess:

V4.steamlessproject.nl

as it worked a treat for me.

in order to use this new patch your version of HL should be v1.1.1.0, if it's not you can find the offical v1.1.1.0 update patch at this web address:

This mod dose play on a WON version, as that's what I'm playing it on, & you don't need STEAM to play it.

Just install your copy of HL (if you haven't already), then install the patches (see my previous post), then install this mod in your HL folder, then choose the openGL setting for your video settings in the game, & there you have it, & you can adjust your openGL setting's once your in the game by pressing F1.

By they way, don't forget to follow the v1.1.1.2 patches ReadMe.txt instructions after you've install it, or your openGL won't work.

Also: I don't know if this made any differance, but I also loaded in the official HL HD pack for good measure, which you might want to do if you have it.

Just finished this. I have to say it seems a little rushed, and I have mixed feelings about it in the end, but overall it was a great mod. This is definitely a great send off for ol' Half-Life engine. :)

The only major problem I had was with the weapons. I'm not sure if it's an issue with the enemies or how the weapons are implemented, but sometimes enemies either die in one or two hits or take an entire magazine unloaded to their head to finally die. You cannot pick up ammo from enemies, either, which means you tend to run very low throughout most of it.

The zombies are the worst offenders. When I finally got the shotgun, I thought things would let up, but once again it takes 7 shotgun blasts to the head to finally down one of those things. Why bother giving the player a shotgun if it isn't a good zombie slayer? Thankfully, the authors seemed to have noticed the issues with the weaponry and placed just enough ammo in the maps. I never truly ran out, but it was still annoying.

MY REVIEW,

I had some video bugs concerning this mod but it was down to my version of HL rather then the mod itself, & once I found a good patch it played like a dream.

The mod looks amazing & not like a HL mod at all. You can see why this mod took so long as it's all there on the screen, including character animations that wouldn't make any difference to the story if they were present or not, i.e a chap treading in Dog Doo or a bird prooning itself, are just 2 examples, but they were all there making this mod a site to behold. Think of the work that had to go in to making these animations that bore no relivence to the story itself & your get some idea of what a class act this mod is.

The detail was also amazing, with prefabs galore filling the maps & the vioce acting was superb ( well it sounded superb even though it was in russian ), but there was english sub titles, & the music was also spot on.

All in all this is how a mod should be, & my only complaint would be that I wanted more, & if this mod was a little longer it wouldn't look out of place as a retail game.

So it's a 10/10 from me.

& cheer's for such a great mod BuZZer, & good luck in the MOTY's, i've voted for you.

7/10 from me. Sometimes the game stop detecting hits on enemies, you can't use the mounted guns - only if you're "lucky" (I managed once). The fun part with the monsters were the smallest, which were sad. Also a disappearing crosshair which I had to reinstall Paranoia to get back.

The gameplay and atmospherics were great otherwise. Good work. :)

Bloodborne
Bloodborne Dec 5 2007, 1:35am says:

I just finished playing it. I have to say that this is a shining example of what a good single-player mod should be. The scripting, the atmosphere, tension, the (fairly) realistic gun play, everything is clearly well designed. I think the length of the game was just right (for me, nearly three hours on medium, which is a good gaming session). Kudos to the Paranoia team!

I did notice a few polish issues, though, mainly with the weapons. Occasionally, an enemy would take no damage from a weapon after just completing a scripted animation for a few seconds, especially some of the zombies later on. This was annoying because ammo was scarce and I felt like I was wasting shots. However, I thought that keeping the ammo scarce was a great design choice, it was another way to keep the player on edge. Also, the game failed to load the next section after (spoiler alert!) I came back through the ventilation shaft and fell through the floor.

Overall, great work!
