Introducing GameRevolution, who will now be representing ads on the ModDB & IndieDB.

Posted by on

You may have noticed a slight change on the site over the past 24hours, which is due to us introducing GameRevolution as our new marketters. These guys have been in the business for ages, represent Destructoid among others and shall be responsible for all ads and brands you see integrated on ModDB & IndieDB.

While ads are typically frowned upon, I'm a believer that ads which are relevant and compliment the sites content (without getting in the way, playing unexpected music or flashing) are a good thing. After all without them we wouldn't be able to run ModDB & IndieDB, and fulfil our aims of creating a developer driven community where finding new fans doesn't require complex press releases and stunts. By working with GR we expect you will see more high quality brands and strictly no crap.

Of course if you want less ads, create an account and sign in as members always see less. And if you want no ads use an adblocker support us and indies by buying games on Desura, consider it a donation to get ZERO ads, we've got great games and most cost less than $10.00!

For enquires about running ads, get in touch with Paul and for feedback just comment below.

Well ModDB / IndieDB / Desura are all linked so it isn't *super* easy to do. Best way is to browse the game profile mods section, to view only mods for that game...

i don't mind ads, as long as this means we get better features for moddb in the future.

"Still waiting for Duke Nukem Forever? Forget it start modding, read our introductory guide", this is soooo old! So old even that Duke Nukem Forever is now out already :P

Good and relevant adds not only help this fine network but also benefits the consumer.

Just don't let the ads run rampant like on Xfire's website. There are so many ads shoved in your face that it's hard to tell what the site may have looked like, once upon at time. And the scary thing is, that it was worse, once upon a time...

That will never happen. Ads can be worthwhile if done right, the minute you overdo them they go from been valuable to downright annoying. We only want quality not quantity. On mod profiles we typically only run one ad on the sidebar, sometimes two.

Oh and as a member we instantly show you less ads, our thanks for participating in the community. No ads if you use Desura.

An interactive advert that gives me chances to play things like Brink on my PC for free for a weekend. That's an advert I can stand.

So long as it keeps the site running, and so long as they aren't too big, loud or generally annoying, I'm fine with ads.

No matter. It's the type of adds I have issue with. A vast improvement so far.

funny you should mention ads. I actually couldn't click on the link for this news post at first because of a giant 'Vortex 5 Gum' add that was stretching out across my screen (it also plays a really annoying explosion sound effect)

What kind of ads you get really depends what country you live in. I started using an ad-blocker on most sites, though I hardly ever need to block anything on ModDB anymore.
Great improvement though!

Ads are one thing, this pop up **** is total sell out faggotry. It's a clear indication of where this site is going. Oh well, you had a good run.
