We now need out fans and supporters to send this letter to everyone and anyone on the internet. Be it youtube channels, journalism sites or just friends and folowers. We need to spread the word and get ourselves noticed.

Someone wrote: Dear [recipient],

I would like to inform you of a Lord of the Rings fan modification of the Elder Scrolls Skyrim, which has recently been issued a cease and desist letter from Warner Brothers Entertainment. The mod's name is MERP (Middle earth Roleplaying Project), which has been in development since before 2008 (though then for a different game). Since then, the team has matured and the mod has seen a huge boost in quality, fan support and developemnt experience.

Now we need all the support we can get from fans, other modders, game websites, famous people and whoever can help to spread news about our current situation to show Warner Bros. how much everyone cares about our project.

After contact with Warner Brothers, they did not permit us to continue the project privately with no public releases. We have contact with a lawyer who is trying to argue our case as transformative and under 'fair use', but we also need all the support we can get!

Please help our cause, and spread the news and don't let this awesome non-profit project come to an end!

We have a petition, facebook pages, and a twitter hashtag – #SaveMERP

Facebook: Facebook.com

Petition: Gopetition.com

Our main news and blog site is: Moddb.com

Please help us and spread the news!

Together we can save MERP!

I think the reason WB issued the C&D is because of the new upcoming games based on the Hobbit: The Hobbit: Armies of the Third Age and The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth. But the only problem is they are probably gonna be crap like all the other games made by WB and Kabam

EXACTLY, Just change the name to "ALMOST middle earth total conversion mod".. Then they can't say it's the same. Change char names a little.. Aragorn could be Aragon, Gimli could be Gimly, Legolas could be Leggomyeggo, etc... Then they can't say it infringes on their copyrights. Or contact Tolkien's publishers and ask them for rights to continue, then let them go at it with WB, if WB takes issue. I am certain the publishers can comprehend that by having a video game, that will entice gamers and kids who have never read the books to actually go read them... The movies do the opposite.. People watch them movies and think they don't need to read the books.. So this mod actually does Tolkien a service. So **** WB.

Guys, I say we take the fight to here as well

(You'll have to remove the spaces as my account is undergoing verification (I just felt the need to make an account and inform you guys that this is an option if things get that bad).
A minimum of 25,000 signatures guarantees that the state will evaluate and assess this issue while providing input as well as judicial assistance if necessary. (Don't quote me on this but I believe these particular petitions are to be personally reviewed by the president if 25,000 signatures are acquired).

As soon as my friend told me about the mod I got beyond excited! And only just now did I read about WB! I just signed the petition. I'm #22539! If we can keep this up then I think we'll be playing this team's breathtaking artwork on our own screens!

F-U-C-K Warner Bros for this! Keep working on it guys! Just don't be stupid about it and release updates to people. Just wait till it's all said and done, then give it to someone in the Ukraine to upload and distribute. WB is the big bully in the struggle and for now on, I will never EVER pay for another WB product in my life. I will pirate the games, I will pirate their movies, and if I can, I will give them away to AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE!!! JUST OUT OF SPITE!!! YOU DIDN'T WRITE OR CREATE LORD OF THE RINGS WARNER BROS AND I KNOW THAT IF TOLKIEN WAS STILL ALIVE HE WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS AND BE ON BOARD WITH IT!!! THANKS AGAIN WB!!! YOU GIVE US **** VIDEO GAMES AND **** TELEVISION FOR 10 YEARS BUT NOW THIS?! YOU HAVE CROSSED THE LINE!!! HUFF MY FART WARNER BROS!!!

Hey guess what? I haven't bought Lego Lord of the Rings and hopefully no one else who signed the petition has either, so that's around 23k ppl so far that hopefully haven't bought WB game so, the PC version $30 and the console version is around $50, so, $30 and that times 23k is around $690,000 plus tax.

I probably wouldn't have bought it to begin with (since the only form of gaming I participate in is through the PC) but I've since decided I'm not getting anything "Warner Bros." for now. It isn't like I really need anything they offer, this just frees up a bit of money that I can put elsewhere. :D

Question here. I know WB rights to lord of the rings expires soon and Saul Zaentz owns the rights to the book version of it. So couldn't you just get rid or modify the art that looks like it was from the movie and go to Middle Earth Enterprises to get permissions to do this? I mean if Tolkien enterprises and iron crown enterprises are not throwing a fit about the use of MERP then I bet they would go for this....

Just a thought

"In 1976 Zaentz acquired certain rights in J. R. R. Tolkien's books of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. In 1978 he produced an animated version of The Lord of the Rings, written chiefly by Peter S. Beagle and directed by animator Ralph Bakshi. Through Middle-earth Enterprises, Saul Zaentz owns the worldwide film, stage, and merchandise rights to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit." Wikipedia

Felt that it was missing, not sure if anyone else has said it, but if not then shame. Good luck MERP team, its a shame about the NDA but I'm hopeful that youre continuing.

Fans of games, of books, my brothers! I see in your comments the same depression that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of fans fails, when we forsake our dreams and break all hopes of happiness; but it is not this day! An hour of woe, and mauled mods, when the Age of fans comes crashing down; but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you sign, Fans of the Internet!
