March 1st is here and Spring is around the bend! There has been a lot of activity going on in these last couple of weeks. Most likely the products of this activity will be talked about on the 15th. Don't worry though, we have a some good news for you today.
First off, there are two new members of the RnL Dev Team! Danny "Prox" Negus is officially an RnL modeler and Felix "Medic" Rauhut has also been accepted as an RnL level designer.
Prox passed his rite of passage assignment with some great looking tapestries. There will be more on his first official assignment in a couple of weeks, but for now take a look at his work that has already been assigned to certain maps.
Medic was inducted from the Beta Tester team after his extremely successful creation rnl_battleofcarentan. If you don't remember it, last month we debuted it with Medic's Band of Brother's based video.
You can download the map at our forums: Link Here
Another treat for you all today is Ryan D.'s paratrooper model textured by Eero. I am still not allowed to say it is finished yet, but as you can see it has been greatly revised since the last update. Knowing Eero, he will probably find ways to make it better even after the Beta is released. None the less and without further ado, here is a "near-complete" render of the new paratrooper.
Before I finish this off, I would like to ask the public for help again. If you would like to dedicate some time to help this mod grow and you know animating, sound engineering, coding, or texturing please (Click Here).
Stick around for two more weeks to check out the March 15th Road to the Future where we should have some more great news and media.
Hmm, the character model looks off somehow. He's got tiny ankles and long feet, his chest seems super long as well. Texture is looking good though. Lacks maybe a tad bit of wear and tear/dirt. Keep up the good work!
Well, the mod (many of the maps anyway) are based on just the first few hours of the invasion, so wear and tear will be minimal :)
The perspective of the shot makes it look kinda off. In reality, it's really spot on.
sweet the paratrooper looks great but i found this picture showing the various equipment and you might have seen it also but i think the paratrooper needs a little more items because he looks too neat.
Militariana.com
i found the #12 arm band which is used for detecting dangerous gases and the #17 medical kit would complete the outfit nicely
awesome work so far guys
Yeah, in game he has things like a musette bag, grenades, hip holster, various things on his belt, and an M1 bandolier. The render was mainly to show off Eero's texture work.
Yes, the grenades and other accessories are added in-game (a customisation menu for selecting how many of each you want).
Looks good... but the turn speed of the player model seems out of place with the mod. Everything seems slowed down a bit, but he turns as fast as lighting.
Paratrooper looks awesome, only thing that is bothering me is the way he holds the gun. He´s doing it wrong :)
It's just a posed model. The character does not hold the gun that way in-game.
The trailer was very cool ;)
is this ever gonna go beta?
No we're making all this new content because we don't ever want to release it. ;P
Excellent update! RnL is da best =)
Epic movie! Good job with that it was just like the normal episode!
Considering human anatomy, how have you reached this conclusion? As someone who frequently wears tight combat boots, I see nothing wrong at all with the ankles or feet. It's a fantastic model.
agreed about the character model. i would strongly suggest ryan, the dev to study anatomy, mainly in regards to proportions. i've seen his work in this mod and it is by far the weakest link.
first off, the helmet is way too big. research ww2. google photos if you have to.
secondly, the shin is too short, the ankle is pencil thin. they still need blood supply to their feet.
of course there's also the weird upper to lower body proportions. the torso is the right size, so is the arm, but the leg and hip look tiny.
that model may be touched up and made to look splendid in appearance, but to dare call it finished or complete is absurd.
i strongly suggest the proportions be improved. i've also seen the wip of that model and can tell you the body is too thin. paratroops wear layers of clothing. you've got them looking like they've got a corset on.
You think the guy who modeled and textured every weapon in the game is the "weakest link"? Whoever the strongest link is, they must be amazing at what they do.
The perspective of the shot makes it look kinda off. In reality, it's really spot on.
Furthermore, this is the model without any of the equipment attachments that add on the realistic bulk of the soldier.
Wait to see it in game before you write your report on how everything is wrong.
First off, Ryan has probably done some of the most amazing work on this mod to date. One of the main reasons so many people like it is because of its incredible modelling and animation work.
Secondly, the perspective of the shot is a little weird. Look at some of the other renders.
Thirdly, have you ever worn a paratrooper jump suit? I have, the material REALLY isn't that thick.
can you honestly look at that model and say it doesn't look like a cartoon character?
if you want pro-looking models, look at dods. higher resolution, higher poly, and paratrooper versions of those us army models would look just splendid for this mod. even the helmet's right.
and i mean they look superb. get those helmets over here asap.
