Post news Report RSS Mak Studios Publically Acknowledges a Potential Trademark Infringement

It's a sad truth - but it seems we've unwittingly fallen foul of the Trademark and Patents legislation. "Dominion" is in use by Rio Grande Games for their card game and is apparently a pending trademark in the Video Games category.

"Dominion" is in use by Rio Grande Games for their card game and is apparently a pending trademark in the Video Games category.
As a consequence - they have (through their lawyers) requested us to cease and desist from using their pending trademark for our product.

Disappointing to say the least but I was under the presumption that a word such as "dominion" couldnt be trademarked due to the nature of the term. It has appeared in a hell of alot of things (star trek deep space nine springs to mind). The only thing from what I read you can trademark is the "image" of the word. I hoep that the name doesnt require changing but I'm positive theres plenty of other ways to give the same name.

Cheers mapayne - it's when the word is used as a brand it becomes an issue. There are probably a lot of legal things we could do - but without the money to do them, they win. We have to kowtow and change brand.

Still - at this point, it's just a name after all ;)
