Post news Report RSS Lost Alpha Update

Official statement of Dezowave Group regarding leaked version and release date.

Posted by on

Some testers have decided to ruin years of our hard work and have leaked an unfinished render-test build of Lost Alpha to the public. The beta dates back to November 5, 2013. This leaked version is not finished and not prepared to be released by any means. It contains render bugs that we've been working on since last year among the other ones that prevent smooth gameplay.
It is stolen copyrighted material and it is illegal to download it.
Modders are forbidden to use any of its contents until official release
.
Links to the leaked files won't be tolerated here nor the discussions about it. Any support for the leaked version won't be given either.

This unfortunate event crosses out any chances to release LA as an official addon to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. LA will be released as an addon for free.

In this situation we've decided to release the official version of Lost Alpha on 26th of April 2014.
On Chernobyl disaster 28th anniversary you will get the most recent version of LA. It won't be completely finished as we wanted it to be but at least stable and finishing the game would be possible. This can be called "early access", which means patches, updates will be added in the future. If you feel like supporting us, you can donate on our main webpage, just click on the paypal button in the upper right corner of the screen. All donations will be used for our upcoming project, which we will announce later this year.

On this day there will be official presentation of LA in Warsaw during 'Park in The Zone' event.

I am sorry to hear this.
Obviously I shall do my duty and notify you guys if I see the leak distributed anywhere.
I was worried the same thing would happen for MISERY but it didn't.
A modders nightmare!

Well, although forced I shall be sure to congratulate you on the day of release.
I hope it doesn't ruin too much for your plans and in any case you should rest assured that I would respect a delay on release because of this.

It would be nice to see the names of these testers, for modders to know that they cannot be trusted.

Goddamnit.

Be strong. Hl2 was leaked, but turned out to be really great.

They also cut out quite a bit of content as I recall; several weapons, enemy types, levels, and even character relationships.

Don't let 1 tester who leaked it get in the way of releasing LA on time, and please don't cut out half the stuff, dez0wave.

We know who leaked it, he wanted to make 1st of April 'joke' - without informing us - and to boost the view count of his site. We asked him several times to take them down because it can turn out bad, but he said he won't, and we should not worry, because the files are passcoded...

I'm sorry to hear how big an effect it's had after all the hard work, It would be a good idea to name him to other Stalker mod groups and developers, privately if need be. Make sure he never tricks his way into a position of trust within the community again. People need to know that doing something like this will have a negative impact on there standing within the modding community.

Well well done to that guy for screwing up EVERYTHING... Well it's not the end of the world. A leaked build in no way resembles the final product so when the official version is released it will be useless.

My Condolences as well. Part of me is excited to finally get to try Lost Alpha but I am a firm believer greatness is worth the wait and I can only imagine the feeling all of the Devs are going through.

I honestly agree that a delay is more than acceptable. I can understand a pressure to just get it on out now that it has been leaked but also would respect just continuing to work on it and making people wait, awesome things are worth waiting for :)

"This unfortunate event crosses out any chances to release LA as an official addon to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. LA will be released as any other mod without official support from GSC."
This ruined a business opportunity for you?
GSC will not allow sales of an addon build because a faulty version will be available for free now?
Sorry, if I overlooked obvious info, but I haven't tracked properly for a while now

If you ask me GSC is being a bit hypocritical considering the state of there releases for SOC and CS.

Did they ever really intend to allow it or were they more interested in seeing how much interest there was?

This is how it works. I'm also in the music industry, and labels arent releasing musics officially on vinyl or on beatport if it can be downloaded from the artist's page, or anywhere on the web. It was our fault to trust too many people, however we needed testers, and it was easier to select from those people who we already know for years. This word "know" is also inappropriate, since we never meet in public.

I am really sad to hear that.
It's sad that it seems impossible to trust people to be professional, nowadays.

Still, leaks of alpha/beta versions of games have happened before, to bigger games, without ruining the development/release completely. (Like the Crysis 2 leak.)

Has this leak really thrown all hope for an official license out the window?

What exactly is 'GSC Support'? What kind of support could they have given other than publishing it as an official stalker game? LA started out as a mod, and it'l be completed as a mod. If it's any good, I'd recognize it as an official stalker game regardless of what GSC thinks of it.

Curious about this too, I suppose if it got official support there would be official endorsement and assistance with updates down the road to push those out more efficiently.

But yeah, I'm sure the mod version will be fine, but it would have been nice to have it as a stand alone title.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

I think it still is a stand alone title. I think I read in the FAQ that the development has gone so incredibly far, that the mod has pretty much turned into a proper game, with it's own unique engine. The only thing it'l probably lack is a price tag, and thats fine with me.

Wow, this is horrible. I had such high hopes for this being an official addon to the STALKER series. I am so sorry this happened to you guys! You've put so much effort into this game, many years, it's a shame that a leak is what ultimately crushed the chances of GSC supporting it. You guys have made my and many other's dream come true, I would've gladly payed for this game.

What did these "testers" expect anyway...Do you know who it was or is it impossible to track down?

I don't know, but it seems you have made one or two mistakes during choosing the testers, have you made a competition or did you hand-pick them like Nicolai did?

Uhm... Please excuse me if I'm naive or ignorant, but why exactly a leaked unfinished mod can do bad things to the developement of that mod?
Don't get me wrong, I don't support or praise this kind of behaviour, I just don't understand how this can "ruin years of hard work", can you explain please?
They haven't hacked and deleted every content of the mod from every storage... At most the WOW! factor of the mod release is ruined for the people that have already downloaded the leaked beta, but at this point I'd say that these people deserved it.

Hey Silver

I believe there would of been either an agreement or an implied condition that in order for LA and the team to be officially recognized as an installment to the Stalker universe supported by GSC (bit of a big deal for some modders!), no version of the game may be released, published or spread/leaked to the masses unless agreed upon, amongst a whole bunch of other conditions.

What this could mean? The opportunity for Lost Alpha to be purchasable and therefore offering payment to Dez0wave team's years of hard work. In addition, damaged credibility for the team and their portfolio for any future projects/careers and the sense of complete abandonment from GSC which is almost like losing a hero.

This is barely Dez0wave's team fault. But they trusted a few people with a nearly finished product of the game and it backfired on them.

I'm sure if there was a kickstarter for this game it could of been a massive success but they never followed this path. Rather, they wanted to give the opportunity to wow people with something free or cheap however their opportunity to even receive even a small sum of income after all their dedication has now crashed and burned.

I just really really really hope this is a late April Fools joke... this is horrible.

Why "their opportunity to even receive even a small sum of income after all their dedication has now crashed and burned"? Can't they insert a DONATE button wherever they want?
At the end what I understand is that the "horrible" result of this leak is only that people aren't going to be FORCED to pay money to enjoy this MOD, and it's definately not "years of hard work ruined".

Reply Good karma Bad karma-1 votes
Chezzlor
Chezzlor

Yeah they have had a donate option available for a while now, but I'm not sure if they will still get the support they deserve and definitely could of received. Anyway I hope they do get a large sum of donations. If so, GSC will kick themselves for not getting a piece of the pie.

You want to play the game for free? Sure but these leakers should of waited after Dez0wave release the game with GSCs support before releasing illegal versions.

While their years of hard work isn't ruined, their potential of becoming an official part of the Stalker series history has been destroyed. It is like being kicked in the teeth imo. Almost like winning the lottery and then losing the required ticket.

I don't understand this either. Even if it was leaked - its very under the radar.
I consider myself a STALKER fan, yet I had no idea of any LA leak until today, not to mention there's zero chances of me trying to find this stupid leaked version. So if this is prevalent feeling among fans, why make a big deal out of this?
