So today, we finally reveal one of the new core features of Jailbreak 0.4, and it's something we're quite proud of! Below you will find six new pictures from last nights beta test, one of which shows off the custom perks selection screen... Look out for the new Rebel Rifle and Rebel SMG too!

Again, for the final week, please be aware that the HUD is still in a temporary state and is being finished up for next week!

One of the 70 new custom models. Try to avoid getting hit by the Railgun!
The Rebels standard SMG The Rebel Rifle! Look closely and you'll see a Stealth'd enemy.

So what exactly are perks all about? The concept is simple: You earn points, as explained last week, and using these points you can buy one of twelve perks, combining these perks together creates a custom class... So, you wanna be an double jumping medic? You can! Invisible and accurate heavy weapons guy? Check. Want to spawn in Jail with a weapon? No problem.

Balance issues you say? Each perk is seperated into levels, only attainable by gaining more points, and only one perk is allowed per level. Alongside this each perk is balanced to provide a defence or offence against another perk. So if the enemy team are using Stealth; buy Awareness and you can see them! Problem solved.

Oh I see. So you basicly took the Perks idea from Call of Duty 4 and implanted it into your mod. I must say, you've done a nice job.

Balance is great: You can't run faster AND have more stamina. ( Super sprint without getting tired? Hell no. ) You can't walk around stealthily healing your teammates. ( Why won't they die!? ) You can't have damage reduction AND more health. ( Invulnerability, XD ).

Wow don't freak out, their developing the mod, not you. I think they know how to balance their own game...

... There's nothing that's particularly original about the Perks system we're implementing, it's been around for years, with Fallout being the one that inspired us (our coder is called Dogmeat, that should tell you something). We're not attempting to do anything hugely original here, just trying to do something fun and cool :)

Oh and I've not played COD4, neither has anyone on the team... we're not fans of realistic military shooters, we like daft crazy games with sci-fi guns and perks!

Just to clarify what I was saying: We have been inspired by many other games in developing Jailbreak, theres no issue there, we've looked at what works and good ways of rewarding the players and used those concepts in our own way.

Also, I'm unsure whether you're criticising the perks system in your second paragraph for allowing overpowered players or simply stating exactly what the perks system does. As all the things you mentioned are not possible, for reasons of balance.

lol PunK_Killer :) You're probably playing 0.3.1, everyone gets together on Saturday nights to play from 7:30 GMT... so come along then and join the fun, at least one server fills to max and the others get some good games too.

Little and strange maps though? Sorry if you didn't like them!

What exactly happened? Everybody took what I said the wrong way. I wasn't complaining, I just said you guys implemented a well balanced perk system. Why did everybody suddenly say I was "freaking out" or "trying to tell them how to balance" it?

Meanies =(

Narr mate we understood what you meant (at least i did anyway) the perk system as you have said has been balanced in order to stop invincible players, in fact at one point during internal beta we actually had the ability to use any perk you wanted as long as you paid for them with your accumulated points and it was insane. As things stand at the minute the perks have been balanced as well as we can figure out but there's always that chance somebody will find some uber setup, like they do in MMORPG'S :D

And no, none of us have played COD4, i didn't realize until you posted that, that there was a perks system in that game.

Glad everyone is liking the idea and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do!!

I understood you, the issue was you started off your post attacking the team for 'stealing' the perk idea from cod4, and then you started talking about how they balanced it, even though it was pro-jailbreak. It was just an ackward transition, next time try doing something like:
the good:
the bad:
just to make it a little more clear.

Sorry Whitehawk... I hope I didn't come across as mean, its always hard to understand intonation on the web, and as your initial paragraph suggested we'd lifted something from a game we haven't played (not that we haven't lifted the concept, we just didn't lift it from there!), it seemed like you were being sarcastic in the second paragraph! :D

Anyways buddy, I really hope you enjoy the game, and if you want a few rounds with us devs at any time, just join our forums!
